Today Trump spoke to the Saudi king concerning the whereabouts of the Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.

Characteristically, Trump believed the Saudi king's denial, illustrating an enormous amount of naiveté. Did Trump think there was any possibility of the king's confession?

That said, Trump told reporters on a rainy White House lawn, “The King firmly denied any knowledge” of the disappearance. Then he added this stunning caveat, “it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers.”

Trump is the only one on the planet who is suggesting that "rogue killers" somehow gained entrance to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul and for some reason murdered the Post journalist.

“The King firmly denied any knowledge” sounds very similar to another statement Trump made at a news conference in Helsinki in July when he revered the word of another autocrat. "I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today," Trump said.

Trump does not stop there. At one point he fell in love with an autocrat who murdered his own brother and uncle, has imprisoned thousands of his own people in gulags, and has threatened the United States with nuclear annihilation. Despite Kim Jong Un's failure to take any steps toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula per his promise, Trump made this statement recently, "I was really being tough. And so was he. And we'd go back and forth. And then we fell in love. OK? No, really. He wrote me beautiful letters. And they're great letters. We fell in love."

Reminder, this is our President speaking.

Trump is also enamored with still another autocrat, Xi Jinping, the communist dictator of China. “President Xi and I will always be friends, no matter what happens with our dispute on trade. China will take down its trade barriers because it is the right thing to do,” Trump said a few months back.

Trump was wrong about that, but that is for another thread.

Of course, Trump is wrong a lot. Already he has been proven wrong about his ludicrous "rogue killers." No one took him seriously, anyway.

The Saudis are preparing a report that will acknowledge the Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, was murdered within the Saudi Consulate. The Saudis, of course, will provide extenuating circumstances which may or may not believed, although Trump's acceptance of the excuses is a given. The last is based on Trump's track record.

The fact remains, Khashoggi went into the consulate and was never seen again because he was murdered within the consulate. The order concerning the fate of an American resident and a Washington Post journalist had to have come from the highest levels of the Saudi government, meaning MBS, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The responsibility for this murder does not rest with low level assassins.

So, what shall we do? Depose the Saudi Government? Declare war on Saudi Arabia? Sanction the Saudis? Maybe we should break off our alliance per the minimum. Maybe we can go beyond that to have a greater talk in that the ME has always been an antagonist to US interests(including Israel.)

Please tell me what your reply has to do with Trump embracing autocrats.

The point is, your reply has nothing to do with the issues raised in the OP. Those are issues you wish to avoid. Trump supporters cannot justify or explain away Trump's eagerness to make dictators happy.

The truth is, he envies men like MBS, Putin, Xi, even Kim. Why? Because they maintain iron control of their country. Trump would love to be able to do that in the U.S., but one powerful force is preventing that control even with sycophants in Congress. That powerful force is the free press. That is why he regards the free press as the "enemy of the people."

Now can you deal with these issues, or will you go off on some tangent again?

Another Trump supporter speaks. His point?

I have absolutely no idea. I wonder if he knows.

He's suggesting that we are being extorted by the Saudis

One wonders if TRUMP is being extorted or simply can't go against his business partners

No, using Saudi oil to fill your tank is not extortion.

It's not as if Trump bows to his highness, leave that to the last president. Trump has said it's being investigated and has said there will be a strong response if true. But to those with TDS, this means Trump is enchanted with the King. :roflol:

It has nothing to do with Trump. The issue is everything to do with the US-Saudi relations. And no, this sad pathetic thing we call a press is not what keeps Trump from being a dictator. It's congressional/constitutional laws that he has not shown even an scintilla of attempting to violate. Unlike Bush who signed an executive order that would have repealed the amendment on term limits.(It's just not activated yet)

The national media is tabloid on steroids. And god forbid we criticize them because according to Mr. Flake(R-Arizona), we would be appeasing Putin and the rest of the autocratic world by calling out their sensationalist, babbling drivel.

Oddly enough the leader of China suspended democratic elections in China becoming leader for life and the neo liberal establishment was oddly silent.

Then again when you receive a lot of your money from communist China......

    Who's your political sugar daddy?

Seems like Trump is fishing for a consensus of approval regarding autocracy. . . . I personally think that he is dissatisfied with the constitutionally imposed limitations to his authority as President, and he has wishful aspirations.

I don't really believe he expects to achieve that dream, but it is obvious that he has an insatiable appetite for power, and will continue to test the limits of his authority whenever possible.

Beliefs are interesting, and all, but not... really important.

Maybe if you could explain why you believe this, but, I doubt that's really going to happen.

My skepticism would normally be something to take into consideration, considering all you have are beliefs with no reasons given, but I know you'll just waltz over that like all of your other leftist brethren. Actually explaining your fears using premises arrived at a conclusion based upon those premises?

    Not going to happen.

And to normal people, that would be a really really embarrassing moment, where you have beliefs, but can't explain why you hold your beliefs.

Do you deny that he has expressed much admiration for authoritarian leaders, even those with proven human rights violations?

Do you deny that he adamantly INSISTS that loyalty to himself is his subordinates' ultimate priority, even when that entails cover-ups of suspicious activities?

Do you deny that he has actually THREATENED Republican congressional members that do not bend to his will, bragging that he has the power to destroy their careers?

Do you deny that he expresses unmerited anger and hostility towards those who do not agree with him?

Do you deny that he is a STRONG advocate of division rather than unity?

Do you deny that on several occasions Trump has been openly critical of the U.S. Constitution?

Trump has always been accustomed to getting what he wants, the way he wants it. It doesn't take a master profiler to come to the conclusion that I made.

    Pick one Sandy
    1. Bomb the Saudis back to the stone age
    2. Continue on the same path as the past 25 years policy
    3. Complain which ever path President Trump appears to be taking.
See how easy I made that for you?

All said, Trump is president and you are not.

#i am really a democrat, just not a Hillary democrat.

Yes, and that is quite dangerous. It is difficult to understand his thinking. We know he is a narcissistic sociopath. Does he say these things simply to draw attention to himself?

We know he has an insatiable desire for attention. The wacky photo op with Kanye West as Floridians on the panhandle were looking for their homes while searching for the dead is an illustration of his desire for attention. He doesn't care if the event makes him look stupid, incompetent, and uncaring. It is the attention he craves.

The Chinese-Communist (Chi-Coms) have been funneling money into the DNC coffers and Democratic politicians campaigns for a few decades now.
Then there's guns, scary looking guns that scares liberals except when there's money to be made for the DNC and liberal politicians.

It just wasn't the DNC and the Clintons or Obama's "Fast and Furious" arming the drug cartels in Mexico or arming Al Qaeda in Libya or arming the Obama's "JV Team" (ISIS) in Syria but even in the hermit kingdom of California and reconquista socialist are in the gun trafficking business....

So you're saying that Trump's corruption is as serious as Obama's corruption which is as serious as Bush II's which is as serious as Boy Clinton's, etc.?

We have a wildly corrupt political class in bed with wildly corrupt political classes of other countries?
