A very philosophical question. But since I'm an Atheist I figured the answers might vary. I see as the purpose of life to have as much fun as I possibly can and bringing the same joy to others.
You seem to have the 1 cor. 15:32, Isaiah 22:13, 56:12 & Luke 12:19 outlook on life. The purpose of life to me is the worship of the Lord, in all that we do.
As good a purpiose as any.....and you didn't need the Buybull to tell you so.... atheists can think for themselves...
I cant really agree. "Fun" is like candy, best in small amounts, not every day. Maybe you have some other word in mind?
The main purpose of life (I am assuming you mean human life) is the survival of the species which is mostly advanced by procreation and the passing of pro-survival traits to the offspring. A sense of well-being, fulfillment and having fun is positive reinforcement for having been successful.
Not really. Fun to me means simply enjoying every aspect of life. So a job I love, free-time I love, the partner I love and as much laughter as possible...
I personally find it very interesting that something that is alive seeks purpose.... "The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal:" ...when regardless of our desired goal we all die. One needs no purpose to have fun or otherwise. In fact I would say it was purpose that removed us from our natural state, from our relationship with nature, complicating our lives and creating the suffering of millions all for some purpose that continues to allude us. We have created a problem in search for the solution.
I consider the question poorly framed, because I see no reason to try and find some objective purpose for life. There is no purpose for anything in the universe, as this would imply that there was a willpower behind it to begin with. Things simply are. Why? Because them's the rules (of physics, etc.). Maybe YOU think you're an animal but I can think and reason and am not an animal..animals are quite different from humans, that's why there aren't any animals in this forum typing out silly messages. The differences are quite minor, especially when you compare us to our nearest relatives. As for the reproduction issue, people have sex because it's a natural drive to procreate. That doesn't mean they feel a need not to use birth control, however. The sexual urge is too primitive to be concerned with such trifles.

Thats not the definition of an animal. An animal is a multicellular organism whose cells are contained within membranes rather than cell walls, which grows by consuming carbon and energy from the environment (as opposed to, say, using photosynthesis or oxidation). Or, if you prefer, we could use etymology: the name comes from the Latin animale, meaning "living thing which breathes". The only definition whereby humans are not animals is the anthropocentric idea that somehow we are special little snowflakes and rules don't apply to us. PS my biology is a little shaky, feel free to correct me on any minor details.
We are special because we have more successfully followed the rules. Evolutionarily with the aid of technology we are very close to be oming more than animal. I would still continue to call us animals though at least for another 10 years or so.
So, OK, we have survival...so that's the purpose to procreate and survive so we can procreate...wait, I'm getting dizzy and still we have no answer to what is the purpose of life....if it's only to procreate so we can survive to procreate it's pretty (*)(*)(*)(*) ridiculous....
Are they? What you call the sex drive is something we have in common with every sexually reproducing species. When it comes to wanting children to raise, I expect that's part parental instinct and part conscious desire based on experience with children, varying also by individual.
Good point, I should have said the procreation is not our ONLY purpose but it is a prerequisite for any other purpose or goal because it is directly linked to our survival as a species. If we look at life on Earth we see it is cyclical and you touched on that in your post above. "The circle of life" so to speak. Perhaps there is some as yet undefined purpose in that. Any ideas?
In all that is there an explanation as to why my cat refuses to wash her own dish? Is it because she's an animal or because she's a cat and knows I'll do it for her???
The purpose of life is up to each person to decide. The secret of life is taught to us by nature and physics everyday, and it's one we can all use to make our own lives better. Balance.
Life has no predesigned purpose at all. If you can't figure out what to do with it, it is wasted on you.
