We did make cell phones in the US prior to the free trade agreements But you raise an interesting question Would we, should we put tariffs on South Korea also? And I dont have a pat answer for that
Here. Read this. It's from Tim Cook. https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/...re-forced-to-make-it-in-america/#276eebeb2d2a Labor is only a part of the problem.
You would have to since they would be so much cheaper. But it doesn't matter because Apple would be out of business. See link above.
Of course the US is not the only country to buy iphones. We only buy about 60%. So Apple would lose the other 40% because of the increased price compared to the competition.
What tim cook highlights as a shortage of skiled workers is one of the best reasons to bring manufacturing back to America We should not allow china have that advantage over us because that makes us a second rate nation
So what do you think? Should we pay some students while they go to school - maybe pay for their school? Then maybe he could bring them back and only lose 40% of his business? Sorry, I still don't like it. Then what do we do for all the other stuff (it's called supply chain) we don't build. Maybe we could do what China has done and build an entire city to support Apple. Hmm. We might need to raise taxes to do that. The Republican'ts would never go for it.
Isn't beating anyone in trade against the whole idea? Somebody gets rid of something they don't want and gets something they do but so does the other guy. It's a TRADE. The very essence of win/win i was always told Tariffs view the whole thing in the wrong way, so do trade wars and all that other ****. And no, that's not utopian or "woke" or anything. That's the way things actually are, that's CAPITALISM.
Dont believe everything you hear from self-serving businessmen No way I know you want a world without struggle where everything is easy and simple Maybe the guaranteed income for everyone that the democrats are dangling before the voters is your cup of tea But that world will never exist If our nation has to relearn skills that were forgotten due to stupid trade policies we better do it or else become a 2nd rate banana republic selling only raw materials to china
No, I see a world where people do what they can do best and compete in a global economy. Then we can trade for things we don't do well or don't want to do. And yes, I see some kind of guaranteed income in the future as more and more is done by machines. How do you see it? 300 million people sewing baseballs? Maybe we need to subsidize education, so Americans can afford to be trained. Oh wait. That's China that does that.
For America you are talking about forfeting the game before it even starts How can we compete if all the skills are in china and we are just consumers of what china produces? You are dreaming if you think the would is going to keep honoring our credit card forever
We can compete by doing a lot of the same things they are doing. We could make school more affordable. We could pass a Medicare option to save people maybe a trillion dollars. We could subsidize key technology like 5G to speed it up instead of trying to slow China down. Whenever you are trying to make them less competitive instead of making us more competitive you are going to lose, because even when you think you have won you don't get anything extra.
Yes, by lowering tuition at public universities But as tim cook poinred out we are losing the ability to make things we need in America and that is a serious problem
Thats your big idea? Free tents for dope heads? If you see pictures of uber liberal seattle or san franciso many of the street bums already have a tent Its where the rats sleep when they arent rummaging through the garbage
In case you haven't noticed, robots replace a lot more people than are needed to service and operate them. And no. I would like us to do that. 1. Decide to keep humans in the mix with robots The likelihood is that government will have to take the lead. "Government will have to step up, a political leader who sees a threat to his own political power 2. Initiate aggressive, long-term job training and upskilling Government should take the lead, but companies need to revive traditional practices of training new workers. 3. Award low-interest education loans, and forgive debt "In China, the state is leading in establishing new training centers in schools," 4. Aggressively fund research in AI, robotics and quantum computing https://www.businessinsider.com/china-pushes-automation-robots-united-states-stalls-2018-12
If we are cursed with one of the clowns in the democrat field I hope he is sincere about jobs But all they are promising is what seems to attract you - a free ride for everyone
How is it they describe insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Do you see kids pouring into 2 year schools?
I see as a dyed in the wool lib you want government to make all the decisions But what I want from government is tariffs on chinese products and other cheap labor countries Then the market can best decide how to fill the deman through Made in America
