The Remorseful: Are right-wingers who spread anti-vaxer propaganda shooting themselves in the foot?

Politically speaking, I mean...

Can we all agree on two things?

First, can we agree that most who don't take the vaccine are right-wingers? Many of them don't take it because they heard the vaccines was "dangerous", that it was "experimental", that the vaccines "kills people"... things like that. All of them lies. But they don't hear that from mainstream media. They get it from right wingnut media. So they must be mostly right-wingers, I would think. Certainly all the ones I know are. But that's just anecdotic.

Second, can we agree that people who don't take the vaccine are more likely to catch Covid? Therefore more likely to have to go to a hospital? Maybe not die, but just feel so sick, that they feel they won't make it if they stay home. I think it's safe to assume that if you need to go to a hospital, you have to be feeling really really bad, right? Many of these people come to a point where they think they are going to die. Many others get to the point where they actually WISH they died.

If these two things are true, then the right wing is losing voters. But not just because they die. In fact, relatively speaking (relative to the electorate), the number of right-wingers who die, compared to the number of progressives, is probably minuscule. About 150 million people voted in the last elections. Even if all 600 thousand who died were Republicans (which they obviously aren't) it would be unlikely that that would swing the elections.

I think the way in which they are REALLY losing voters is with a new group of people that has been growing in number recently: the remorseful. People who refused to get the shot because of what they heard or read on right-wing media, but got so sick... or somebody close to them got so sick... that they regret no having taken the vaccine.

This group appears to be growing exponentially. And with the Delta variant, which almost guarantees that almost anybody who is not vaccinated, and is exposed to the virus, will get Covid. Many of them will get only moderately sick, many others might be completely asymptomatic. But if the current trend continues, it would appear like we might be going back to levels not seen since before the vaccine.

Not that all "the remorseful" will suddenly become Democrats. But a lot of them will start questioning if voting Republican is good for their health. It would appear to me that Republicans will lose a significant number of votes among "the remorseful". They might not vote Democrat. Just that they might not vote at all.

I hope right wingers pushing anti-vaxer propaganda will soon realize this, and stop playing politics with people's lives!

So, the Republican party is losing voters constantly.

 

Here in Australia, two thirds of those currently in hospital are under 40, and we have around twenty in ICU who are under 30 - two of them teenagers.

 

The Delta variant has only relatively recently taken over this country. This is what accounts for the recent surge in hospitalizations. I think it's too soon to tell which age groups will be affected the most. But hospitalizations are most definitely, by far, among the unvaccinated. And even though nobody keeps stats of political affiliation of those infected, I think it is reasonable to assume that most of them are Republicans.

 

You're in FL, right? Did you see the topic that @CenterField posted? He stated that FL reached a new high in cases today. Summarizing his post - DeSantis is trying to be a big boy and keep Trumpers happy by minimizing the virus and its wide-reaching transmission throughout the state.

 

Yes. I'm actually living that topic. Desantis is a trainwreck. He just announced he would defund any school that required students to wear masks. He's going to get a lot of people killed. He doesn't care... He thinks that's going to make him the presidential candidate in 2024. And he's too dumb to realize that most of the people he's making sick might be his own potential supporters.

Everybody had a fit when Cuomo sent all those sick people into nursing homes. Now, this fool is sending teachers and kids back to school under threat of no funding if they take precautions? OUTSIDE a pandemic, kids are filthy little creatures that spread germs constantly. How is this not a recipe for disaster?

It's stupid if all your potential voters are dead and dying, Idiot! And, have you noticed that it seems to be lost on Trumpers that he is pushing to get it renamed for him but his WHOLE stance on the whole thing has been to downplay it or ignore it. It's like he said he got the vaccine in January before moving out the WH. He loves being on camera and talking. Why was it secret? That is INSANE.

 

It's less if a problem for most red states because they are so spread out. Florida is the larger issue being that they are high on tourism and population.

Even if it did shift that state in the next election, the democrats will be hurt badly in the other states because of their overreaction and failure to respect our freedoms.

Many Reblicans are doing a risk assessment. The elderly are more likely to get vaccinated and have less to worry about the long term effects if they exist.
The young are less risk to covid but might be more worried about the untested long term effects.

Elderly have a higher vaccination rate. All my republican parents and grandparents are vaccinated but many in my age group are not.

I doubt anybody who is not already a right-wing extremist will adopt the slogan that people have some sort of "right" to infect others with a deadly virus. But I'm sure some might reconsider when they find themselves in the hospital because they were on the losing end of that "right". i.e.: The Remorseful.

BTW, the incubation period is still 5 to 10 days. So most tourists who get infected in Florida STILL get to carry it to their own states even before it's detected. And, even so, Florida is STILL where one out of every five new cases of Covid in the country is found.

 

Maybe if Biden would quit sending unvaxxed illegals to Florida it wouldn’t have started up again.

But vaccinated people must wear masks, because the vaccines don’t work.

If our state constitution had only included recall measures we would likely have already removed DeathSantis. Things like this are made worse because Congress and the DOJ wont intercede.
