I just checked, there are just 18 conservative democrats in the house, you're right though, you can't be a ultra liberal candidate running in a southern district, it doesn't work.

 

It isn't just ultra liberals so much as unless you vote in lock step with them they freeze you out even if you did happen to win once.

 

I suppose the real shame are blue states that went red , Wi, Mich, Pa, Fl , the difference makers.
