The storming of the Capitol Jan 6th, riot or insurrection?

It seems that so many people trying to portray a simple riot, an event a lot less destructive than many others are a coup d'etat? What do you think?

 

I'll meet you halfway. It was a riot and quite a lot of that crowd were intent on a coup d'etat.

 

Same folks who tell us our AR 15s are useless in the face of goverment aggression are the ones telling us an unarmed mob nearly "destroyed democracy" lol

 

It was coup. It was planned to prevent the certification of the election and so alter the form of government. If it was a riot it could have take place anytime after the election results were known.

It was poorly manned, led, planned and executed and so failed miserably but it was an attempted coup and an act of high treason; no amount of Republican prevarication can change that.

 

The insurrectionists in the front lines were attempting a coup. The tag along spectators in the rear were just that - spectators.

 

I voted other. It was a mostly peaceful protest with several getting out of hand. Anyone who thinks Trump was purposely inspiring a coupe is just biased and delusional. It wasn't a riot either because that implies that it was mostly a riot when it was a mostly peaceful protest.

 

How would the form of government be changed? If somehow the election were not certified Nancy Pelosi would become President, not Trump.

 

Trump didn't realize that, nor did his followers.

Were the election to remain uncertified it would be thrown into the House of Representatives, who would have nearly certainly elected Biden.

Trump and his followers were trying to overthrow an election through violence, that would have ended the USA as a Constitutional Republic

 

I think it was a protest that went sideways when the anarchists did their thing.

Seems like you weren't paying too much attention. Yes, a lot of spectators. However, those weren't 'dopes' up front battling the police who were trying to protect the Dems and Repubs that were in session.

That was literally 3 posts ago. I’m not implying I know any more, or any less than you. What confuses you about the fact that I have a different opinion than you concerning that days events? I believe it was riot incited by trump, not some vast right wing conspiracy attempting insurrection. Do me a favor, and stop trying to put words in my mouth, I’ve tried to maintain the same curtesy towards you.

I believe this was a riot, and I also believe people are trying to make it out to be a insurrection. This isn’t complicated. What’s next, are you going to call me a domestic terrorist, or a terrorist sympathizer because I don’t hold the same opinion as you? No. I'm going to say you should consult the Merriam-Webster Dictionary online where it says an insurrection is " an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government. " This seems to pretty much describe what we saw on 1/6
