I cannot understand how Americans can be so stupid that they A) don't want taxes raised even though this would get them out of the current mess and B) they somehow think they are already taxed too much? I mean come on America you are one of the least taxed of all the wealthy countries, the least of the G7 anddd your tax rates in comparison to your own history are at their lowest since 1950 so please America stop being dumb overweight morons, pay taxes like the rest of the world and save yourselves it's really not that difficult.

This is what happens when you let multinat corporations control your MSM. We once had protections in place against just such puppetry, they may not have been perfect but now we get the same old corporate-friendly lies perpetuated as the truth.

Taxiation has always been a sore subject in the US; from our very beginnings taxation was a reason for our revolution. The difficulty today is one of ideology, not fiscal. The right-wing has made a practice of making more noise than anybody else, so there is a preception that the US doesn't want tax revenue. The fact is, this country has gotten bigger and bigger since 1950, and has demanded more and more services: teh right-wing knows that because the military has grown exponentially under Republican ledership; so they know how they've contributed as well. The US will get the revenue raise it needs and the right-wing knows.

If Americans are stupid, why are EU nations trying to rein back the welfare state to avoid a financial collapse?

Raising taxes will not get us out of the debt situation. If the government makes more money from taxes they will spend more money.

We don't even need as much taxes as we have in America. Some countries has 50% tax rates. That is just outrageous. The truth is we don't even need income tax. We could manage only on sales tax if we stop spending money on wasteful things. The problem is everybody has their own opinion on what should be cut and what should be kept.

Do you not consider WARS as wastful ?

How much do you estimate is the cost of the Bush administrations Afghanistan/Iraq wars ? and the housing bubble ?

re " Some countries has 50% tax rates.... - that only applies when income exceeds a certain sum - it s a tax on high earners . Doubt it'll affect the likes of you or I .- unless you're in the million plus p.a. bracket

Wars are not wasteful. Obama is going to add more debt by 2012 then Bush did in 8 years, so who is more wasteful?

It's probably a little unfair to accuse Americans as such of stupidity concerning taxes when it's obviously just the TEA-Party that is stupid.
If the article quoted below is correct most Americans would indeed agree to rising taxes:

No, we absolutely realize it and believe it's tyrannical. We beleive that FDR imposed tyrannical rates of taxation that took decades to get out from under and now that we're free, you wish to reimpose the bonds? No thanks!

We've achieved much. We achieved revenge for 9/11, brought justice and a feeling of closure to millions of American Families, not the least of which the 9/11 familes. We've completely broken Al Qaeda as anything more than a propaganda arm, and we've granted peace and prosperity to Millions of formerly oppressed, gassed and still continue to be ethnically cleansed Kurds.

We've provided schools, hospitals, clean drinking water, food and jobs for millions of muslims all around the planet, and have attempted our very best to provide a basic security for infrastructure.

It's been a massive undertaking, but we have helped millions, even if a few thousand got rich off the deal.

You are an arrogant, self-important fool. The collective wisdom of the American People beggars your mean little intelligence.

Your talking about the geniuses who started 2 World Wars that cost 100 million people their lives in less than 50 years. Little to no credibility there. Then there's their latest blood for Libyan Oil campaign.

Hmm; you followed their example beautifully. How many wars have you started, fomented or been party to since the end of WW2? How many nations have you invaded, bombed, deposed the leaders of?
And how many has the EU?
