I agree that the UN and international community need to be much more clear and forceful on that.

I don't believe they are the legitimate government of whatever they are calling themselves now, nor did I indicate otherwise in my post... do you READ them before responding??

But it's also likely the government "in exile" will not be supported much longer by the international community either, since there is little to no chance of them coming back...

I'm just curious what the UN will do in this one particular instance, something you seem unable or unwilling to comment on...

I mean, we could cut off all forms of connection with the land known as Afghanistan, but that means that the human beings who live there would be totally unrecognized by the UN, which is a strict violation of the UN charter on human rights. I think we have to, like it or not, 'recognize' the current Taliban-led "government" as what they are: Currently in a position of power in Afghanistan. This does not mean we agree with their ways or methods, it means that pouting and saying "nuh uh" violates our human conscious on greater levels. The world/West would be responsible for untold deaths if we just plainly ignored Afghanistan.

Well said! That's 100% the way I feel too.... If we can deal with North Korea (on a transactional basis), we can deal with these yahoos...

I assume the UN will not let the Taliban rep speak for Afghanistan next week, but that might not last forever.

It's just too soon to make those type of determinations after 1 month...

Just to put this story to bed, the UN is just going to pull the AF slot from speaking today.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/afghanistan-not-address-un-general-162945988.html

In essence, this is a tiny win for the Taliban by the UN agreeing the previous AF govt isn't remotely in charge, but they cannot go all the way to give that slot to the Taliban at this point.

    Probably the correct call here?

We are finally out of that black hole, WHO CARES? As for the UN we should reduce our contribution to just a yearly supply of swizzle sticks and cocktail napkins.

I'm starting to think you disagree just for the sake of arguing.
