Nobody in the modern era is all that proud of the history of the United States, but the global community has kind of evolved past the 1600's and as such we moved past the entire "let's invade, conquer and genocide!" Especially after the whole WW2 fiasco.

Virtually every major culture on Earth has engaged in colonization during their expansion phase. The Assyrians, the Greeks, Rome, the Moslem Caliphates, most of the Chinese dynasties, they all did it. As they expanded they subjugated surrounding nations and then sent in members of their 'own' people to 'run' things.
