    Even if we accept that "you can never have enough talent" that doesn't justify accepting an unlimited number of Russians sneaking in from Mexico. Taking everyone doesn't guarantee talent. If you were serious about wanting "talent" you would support redoing US immigration as merit based, but I suspect you are not interested in that.

    As for your contention that "like most countries these days, we need more people," that seems absurd.

    We've had merit based admissions for a very long time. Helps if you know something.

    It's demographics, the Baby Boom was global and because the Boomers had fewer kids (and we didn't train those kids all that well) we have a number of imbalances. We need to be importing as much talent as we can get before the global scramble for talents heats up.

    No, the US system is not a merit based immigration system, and that's not even the topic. This is about asylum for Russians at the Mexican border, not about importing highly skilled immigrants.

    Your real complaint is letting people over humanitarian concerns....
