The hard reality is that Saudi Arabia, a US ally, is committing murder on an unimaginable scale by intentionally starving millions of women and children. There is NOTHING you can say to rationalize that.

No system is perfect, and none is perfectly managed by imperfect humans. Both Maduro and Chavez were elected in accordance with international laws. Though invited to witness and be present at Venezuela's last election, EU and UN leadership refused to send representatives. The plot was thickening.

It needs investment and competent management. it has had neither for years and Venezuela's economy is in freefall as a result. I'm sure there are Venezuelans who can manage competently (though clearly not the current ones), but the money is going to have to come from outside.
