As most of you know we have a huge immigration problem in america, it is so much of a problem it is estimated it will cost hundreds of billions of dollars to deport illegal aliens in this country; however; the problem is not that we have open borders or that we don't have a fence or wall surrounding the border, the problem is what our representives in washington have created, which is an entitlement system the encourages the motive for illegals to come to this country.

Require proof of citizenship before giving out welfare or any entitlement.
The alternative would be to get rid of the entitlements and let them all starve.

Certainly illegals are consuming their fair share of public benefits. But the bigger problem, IMO, is the giant magnet called under-the-table employment. The real culprits here are the unscrupulous employers and their enablers like George Bush and Barrack Obama. In fact, Since Reagan signed the first amnesty into law back in the '80s, which was supposed to include a very strong enforcement mechanism, the illegal population in this country has either quadrupled or quintupled. The biggest part of this enforcement was the $10,000 fine per occurrence that could be levied against employers who knowingly hire people who are not authorized to work in this country. But now, instead of imposing these fines and enforcing the law as written, the illegals have become a protected class--because they are politically valuable to both sides of the aisle. And it is us, the U.S. taxpayer who gets to pay the bill.

The solution? We invite them to leave. Go after those employers. Parade some handcuffed CEOs on an evening news perp walk. Then do it again. And again. Eventually, you'll see I-9 compliance overnight and as long as we can control the dispensation of public benefits (everything from subsidized housing to free school and food stamps), the illegals will deport themselves. The few who remain can then be rounded up and deported.

That said, I think the immigration system in this country is ridiculous. It should be far easier to become a citizen of this great nation. I would make one caveat, however--if you have ever been caught in this country illegally, you have already lost your ability to even apply for citizenship. Flout our laws with impunity? We don't want you! Stay home!

    Welfare should require proof anyway.

End the entitlements and most of the problem is solved.

There is no "let them all starve" as an alternative if they work to obtain their food or can persuade someone to feed them voluntarily. Did you purposely leave out those options or did you not know that they existed?

Otherwise they starve. Have you ever tried to find a decent job while homeless? How about simply without teeth. You know most people won't hire people who won't give them a toothy smile. I know I have 5 teeth and can't afford to get them pulled. Nobody hires somebody they can smell.

I have an idea. How about the U.S. citizens on the dole get off their dead asses and get jobs. Then, the foreigners will not have the massive incentive to come to the U.S. illegally.

There is interesting irony here. Republicans give illegals jobs, yet they support democrats.

Ending entitlements will help solve part of the problem, but there will still be a lot of illegal immigration even without entitlements. The real problem is the struggling mexican economy, which is in part the US's fault. For example our subsidized corn and trade agreements have put a lot of farmers in mexico out of work. Their only real option to support their families is to come here and work in the really crappy jobs we pay them for. There is also illegal immigration stemming from the failed war on drugs, but that is a different issue altogether.

That makes no sense. With corn being used as fuel there should be a higher demand for corn then ever with prices skyrocketing and thus Mexico can make money growing corn. Just not as much as growing weed.
