Oh they most certainly did make it lightly. At least, it was predicated upon political expediency, not science. Feelz, IOW.

And the 'education' means nothing when the science is compromised. How many GPs do you think WISH they could tell their obese patients that their diabetes is a direct result of them eating way too much? 100%, that's how many. But they're no longer allowed to do that. They must pretend that it's 'complex', and never refer directly to the eating thing. Psychiatry (and medicine, when involved in the grey area of health care ... ie, self inflicted disease states and mental health) is doomed.

First, stigmas exist for a reason. They're a survival tool, employed by all social mammals. Pretending we no longer need them is simply the vanity and hubris of the well fed and secure.

Second, when 'treatment' sought is exacerbating the primary condition, I would want to see LESS people seek it.

You would get a truer picture of this business from the Geological Institute, actually. THEY are not compromised.

These naifs who think that 'normalising' will equate to better treatment, are going to enjoy a rude awakening. It's all application of bandaids (after the fact) to them. Not one ounce of energy directed toward PREVENTION.

Would it hurt you to actually use puncuation? I can see spelling errors, especially if posting from a phone, but the run on sentences cause your post to make less sense than they normally would.

Welcome to the land of freedom. There is much that you might disagree with that you must tolerate. Don't like black people? Too bad, you have to tolerate their existence here along with the facts they have rights. Can't stand Christians? Aw, wee lamb. They too have rights and you have to tolerate their existence as well. Same goes for LBGT, trans, poly and a slew of other things you don't like. Hell, I recognize I have to tolerate bigots like you.

Taking the stigma of being a pedophile that has not harmed away does nothing to further harm to children. Driving pedophiles who have not harmed underground by hate an retoric only blocks them from getting help and further risk children.

Of course there is something wrong with them, just as there is with someone who has kleptomania or other such disorders. No one here is saying otherwise, IIRC. It doesn't mean that we need to pile the hate on them if they have not harmed, especially of they are trying to seek help. I know I would be fearful of people like you and others who call for incarceration and castration before harm is done, and not seek help for fear of being found out.

"I don't agree with it, therefore it must be a mental illness!" And yet you never can provide and actual medical proof of it. And even if it is you don't like the only available correction we have that doesn't cause more damage to the patient. So your solution is to either let them keep suffering or to subject them to procedures that would do more harm than good. Don't get me wrong, I am all for developing a procedure that will adjust the mind to align with the body, as would many trans. But until it actually helps more than it harms, aligning the body to the mind is the best treatment.

Define that. Women are currently going to work in pants and other "men's" clothing. Are you calling for women to only be allowed in skirts?

Ah yes the old "if they don't agree with me they must be compromised, even though I have no training in the area" argument.

And exactly how would you prevent such a thing?

I don't know why you put so much stigma on the phrase mental illness. This is something people have that they cannot help. What do you need is understanding kindness and patience they don't need you white knighting for them against something you barely comprehend.

A mental illness or mental disorder if you will is a psychological condition, defined as a thought pattern or behavior that causes suffering.

I am not so hateful as to dismiss the suffering of trans people.

They absolutely do suffer more then the average person who is not transgender. It is out of compassion that I recognize that, not bigotry.

Could it be social? Absolutely, not fitting into society because of a thought pattern or behavior is still an issue with the thought pattern or behavior. Should Society make adjustments? Again absolutely. But I would say starting with you. You should first understand the term mental illness is not to be stigmatized. You are the problem you think it's bad you think it's wrong to have mental illness. You place the stigma on it. All it means to me is that maybe you should speak to a counselor who is educated in helping people cope with the mental illness that you have.

You cannot change or become comfortable with your thoughts and behavior patterns unless you accept that maybe they are the cause of your suffering.

I hate having to explain psychology to people who have no concept of it.

You know I really don't think you could have gotten any more vague. Good job 100% effort!

And exactly how do you plan to treat the "damned condition"?

There is nothing vague about saying 'treat what ails'. If you have a bacterial infection, you will be treated for that condition (with antibiotics).

In this case, the patient has a mental illness (most like adjustment disorder with a small side of depression and a larger side of narcissism). We treat THAT, with the same goal in mind. Making the person NOT adjustment disordered/narcissistic/depressed. Ya know?

Actually, it would probably remove any current treatments paid for by insurance, from those procedures covered by Insurance.

According to the APA its a mental condition. Many of them have doctorates in psychology. AND according to WHO it is a mental disorder until 2022
