What I'm getting at here, is should you answer questions?

The old adage goes you can beat the rap but you can't beat the ride. So part of beating the rap would include not incriminating yourself. So what should you say to police?

I'm going with yes sir no sir and I don't know sir, or ma'am.

You shouldn't give them any information outside of general things. But above all you should be polite.

What do you think about this?

Police can lie to you, and your statements can be used against you.

Beyond identifying myself and asking for a lawyer Im not saying anything-even it seems self explanatory.

I have never met anyone face to face in real life I couldn't get a smile and laugh out of, and that has saved me from at least four tickets. I have had one ticket in my life and it was for "Exhibition of Acceleration" on first street in San Jose.. But I truly deserved it and the other challenger got away, I pulled over knowing I was fooked :)

If any policeman even slightly indicates that he suspects you of a crime, immediately politely inform them that you wish to speak to an attorney. It is never to your advantage to talk to these guys whether you are guilty or innocent. Even if you are innocent and want to help in the investigation it is always better to consult with an attorney. These guys are trained to lie, manipulate and twist the facts to make their cases.

    Long story short..

Was in L.A. county looking for a street, HP was parked off in the divider on a four lane, so I pulled up behind him to ask for directions and caught him TOTALLY into his paper work with the window down. And I walked right up to him and said "Excuse me" and that guy shlt down both legs, turns ashen white and froze like a deer in the headlight LOLOL I thought to Myself "Well this is where I die"! About 30 seconds later he was "WTF is wrong with you" lolol :) By that time I had back stepped to back quarter panel with my hands up and said "RELAX BRAH, I'm just lost", he vented awhile more and gave me direction and I went on my way with my wife chewing my ass telling me about the same stuff the HP said and called me.. I still laugh to this day!!

You should have told him there's this thing called situational awareness. He would have loved that.

A guy I used to work with (Paramedic) knew the local CHP sergeant real well, they were friends for 20 years. He had a new officer in training with him.

They were on the side of the freeway looking at an abandoned vehicle and the medic bear hugs the Sergeant from behind-the rookie pulled his gun. :roflol:

The first thing I say as they are walking up is that there is a weapon on board with both hands at 10 and 2! But this is Wyoming, they ask "Is it loaded" and I tell "Hell ya it aint a club bro!" they laugh and let me go usually :)

I saw this cop coming. I was walking through the parking lot of a stadium where the concert was about to happen. I had a beer in my hand (legally). Cop asked me if I was 21 and I told him no. He asked why I had a beer in my hand and I told him I was 22. He didn't think it was funny but after I let him see my ID, the laugh was on him.

I'll cooperate unless obviously being investgated for something specific. Than I'll merely state 'lawyer.'

It hasn't ever come to that yet.

Thus far I've only been contacted by LE for traffic violations (usually a light out or no mud flaps or expired tags). Interior light on, hands visible on wheel and a polite greeting have served me well.

Yeah, that's all you do. Never talk to the cops at all. Their job is to get enough evidence that will put you behind bars, and they get another feather in their cap. That's all we mean to police.

They'll ask all sorts of open ended questions designed to get you babbling away like "do you know why I pulled you over?" which is designed to get you to incriminate yourself. So just show them your ID, and shut the hell up.

    Know why Texas don't ski?

Cowboy boots don't fit in the ski bindings very well.

This thread is quite telling, the rather uniform answers.

Have ya all never taunted cops?

I was once charged for a crime that never happened. Actually accused by a right wing kook. The back of his car was plastered with right wing bumper stickers. It was rather funny when I went to court. My lawyer tore my accuser apart on the stand. The arresting officer came in and gave the same story that my accuser had tried. It was priceless, the look on his face, when my lawyer told him that previous testimony contradicted his testimony.
Even though his written report agreed with his testimony, he then claimed that he must have confused this with another case. He then gave testimony that destroyed the prosecution's narrative, making all three, the prosecutor, the officer, and my accusser look like a bunch of bumbling liars. The judge acquitted me before I had to offer a defense.

In a case of Karma kicking one in the backside; a couple of months later, a nearby homeless cooking fire got out of control and burnt his business to the ground.

    Yes thats best.

But often enough they will clearly elucidate why we are meeting (still hearing a CHP officer yelling "87 miles AN HOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as he approached me).

I explained and he let me go-but it was not a common explanation.

Agree if you are the suspect.

But more often I've been the one who saved criminal or the cops (medically).

Even if you committed the crime it would be much more difficulty to prove than for your lawyer to rip holes in it.

The reason I posted this thread is because I've been hearing from lawyers, DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE!!!
