How wrong you are. The ones that stay behind and kill ISIS terrorist, I would call freedom fighters.

Why do so many people insist that the flood of people are all EITHER genuine refugees OR and economic migrants. There's obviously both. There's wars going on, and people want to get out of there, for understandable reasons. There's also poverty in many places, and people want to move elsewhere, again for understandable reasons. Fleeing poverty does not make you a refugee however, and thus give you no right to asylum. Fleeing a war does give you that right. But, a refugee has a right to safety, not to wealth. The people wandering across all of europe, towards Germany and Sweden, are not genuine refugees. None of them are. They are all economic migrants since they have passed through several countries which are safe, and are thus not fleeing due to lack of safety. Even if they fled their home country due to war, they are no longer refugees but economic migrants if they leave the first safe country they arrive in. I fully understand why they want to go north however. It's richer, they get more benefits. But living in a rich country isn't a human right. Safety is a right, and there is safety in Turkey, in southern Europe, and in all countries they pass on the way to Germany and Sweden.

Kind of like the pilgrims who came to America. They couldn't could hack it in England so they scurried off to America with their tails between their legs. :?

Seriously, do you not know we are a nation of immigrants? Unless you are a Native American, you have no room to talk.

So, since this has already been proven wrong, and since the gist of your argument hinges on it, isn't it time to close this thread now?

I read that in many cases, Syrian mothers are trying to send their sons away so Assad can't draft them.

IMO statistics in a situation like this are probably untrustworthy.

On the one side we have gut feelings and anecdotal observations about random photos seen in the media . . . on the other we have the objective numbers of the demographics.

The "statistics in a situation like this" are the actual numbers of refugees being referred to the U.S. by the U.N. broken up by age and gender. If I have 100 marbles and only one of them is blue, it is a simple objective fact that 1% of the marbles are blue. If I'm adding new marbles every day, I can still give you a rough estimate of the percentage of blue marbles, and it will still be more accurate then, "I dunno. I saw a picture or the marbles and it looked a lot more like 20% to me."

Well, if you're actually talking about a portion of the refugees being held somewhere they can be counted, that is probably reliable.

For the refugees as a whole, though, I see no reason why all those photos of boatloads full of males would be rigged.

The fighters in Syria are more likely to be killing Assad's soldiers than ISIS millitants. Most of the refugees won't be fighters though, they're civilians.

Your country is at war. Why aren't you fighting for your country? What does that make you?

There is no reason to think that the photos of boatloads are rigged. There is also no reason to think that the demographics of a few boats match the demographics of the entirety. Plus, the OP referenced Obama's comments about the refugees. Obama is specifically talking about the people trying to come here legally. Those are the ones who are going through the UN, since that's the only way for a Syrian refugee to come her legally in the first place.
