I agree that we should ban assault weapons, but that as far as I go. I have never owned a gun, nor has my husband. Our son owns a shot gun for hunting.

But with the direction this Country is taking, I am going to buy a hand gun and take lessons on how to use it. That is my Constitutional right and I am going to take advantage of that right before the Democrats take it away.

Assault rifles are already tightly regulated, require BATF approval to buy and are very expensive, so I'm not sure why you would call for a ban on them.

In the united states, the most violent months are the ones regarded as being the hottest in terms of temperature. It is almost as if greater levels of heat are able to produce greater levels of violence.

When one actually researches the matter with an open mind, they quickly discover the difference between a so-called "assault weapon" and any other firearm is exceedingly minute, and consists primarily of cosmetic features that in no way affect the functionality of a firearm. Ultimately it is nothing more than the concept of racism, just turned around and applied to inanimate objects, but the sentiment is the same. It looks different from what is accepted, therefore it is wrong.

It is like talking to a parallel universe is it not? Where reason does not exist. Where cognitive dissonance is valued and confirmation bias, ingroup bias, causal fallacy and cherry picking are the lenses through which they view the world. It is like debating the existence of god with a fundamentalist.

Is there even a point to be had in the above post?

Ah, and here is the crux of it. Leftists HATE knowing there are people out there who don't think like they do. They claim haughtily to be about celebrating "diversity!" while seeking to destroy it. "Diversity" is: "You must accept my beliefs without question while I denigrate and insult yours." Nothing offends more than the beliefs that diverge from theirs.

I'm not a religious man; though I consider myself one that believes in a higher power in the Universe. I believe most established religions are not about spirituality but about simply keeping the sheep in line; political dogma and socioeconomic slavery masquerading as faith; but I don't push my theological beliefs on anyone if I can avoid it, as my beliefs are mine and mine alone. I'm the same way with politics; I have no problem with people having alternate views or beliefs, and I'm fine with letting people live their lives as they wish... right up until they seek to force their views on me.

When it comes to firearms and Constitutional rights I am perfectly fine with people choosing not to own guns. If they want to congregate together in huge, crowded, ant farms of claustrophobic chaos and call it a "city", that's just fine too. I choose to be where I have some elbow room and the RIGHT to live my life as I see fit. But, unfortunately, those self-righteous ant people want to spew their garbage out of their big old cities and compel me - FORCE me - to comply with how THEY think I should live my life.

I say I have rights; rights I believe were endowed upon me at birth by my creator. The ant people say my "rights" are societal constructs readily revocable upon a whim of government and I will comply or I will be killed for my obstinance, and my response to that is simple: "Come and take them."

I am all about live and let live. Live your lives as you choose. Leave me alone and I will leave you alone. Plain and simple.

There are some very legitimate concerns about assault weapons.

"But the worst is a wound from an AR-15 or AK-47 — high-muzzle velocity weapons, which impart a tremendous amount of kinetic energy into the body. Those are much more destructive. You’re looking at a wound that, externally, is two, three, four times bigger than any handgun wound."
    https://www.thetrace.org/2015/09/bullet-injuries-wounds-trauma-surgery/

"A review of mass shootings between 2009 and 2015 by Everytown for Gun Safety found that incidents where assault weapons or large capacity ammunition magazines were used resulted in 155% more people shot and 47% more people killed compared to other incidents. When access to assault weapons is restricted, deaths due to mass shootings decrease. A 2014 study found that 'both state and federal assault weapons bans have statistically significant and negative effects on mass shooting fatalities.' "

You are quoting a propaganda center that uses the term "mass shootings" which is a very small number of shootings, to bolster their fraudulent findings. That idiotic study didn't find that the number of homicides with guns decreased as a result of those stupid laws.

Here's an abstract of the study:

"The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of federal and state assault weapons bans on public mass shootings. Using a Poisson effect model and data for the period 1982 to 2011, it was found that both state and federal assault weapons bans have statistically significant and negative effects on mass shooting fatalities but that only the federal assault weapons ban had a negative effect on mass shooting injuries. This study is one of the first studies that looks solely at the effects of assault weapons bans on public mass shootings."

Hate to tell ya this but per the DOJ there is no such thing as a semi-automatic assault weapon, they are all semi-automatic rifles and if that is what you are proposing to ban it will never happen as they are way too popular amongst law abiding firearm owners and per the USSC are protected by the Second Amendment.

None the less, you like many anti-gunners, are only trying to solve a symptom, while ignoring the disease and by doing so are actually making the problem worse, not better.

You know that the pink colour is only to make it “girly” for woozes who think they cannot defend themselves without some sort of rapid fire weapon

Once again you are totally incorrect, regardless of color it is nothing more than a semi-automatic rifle which per the USSC is protected for private ownership under the Second Amendment.

Who give a steaming ...... about what YOU call them. The ban should be based on weapon capability

Does not matter what you call it

You just have to look at what the Australian government did. It classifies weapons based on capability and places restrictions on them.

So you are calling for a ban on a firearm that is quite suitable for hunting?

And why are you addressing a symptom while ignoring the disease, people are killed by drunk drivers, but we don't ban cars and trucks, we address the root cause and deal with that.

Why then do the anti-gunners ignore the root cause when it comes to guns, simple, they don't like guns and could give a rats fanny about saving lives, for if they cared about lives they would address the actual problem, not the tool used.

Yea and in your country you do not have the rights we have, so if you don't want guns do us a favor keep your very foolish banning attitude out of the U.S.
