Gerrymandering is done by both sides. I live in Iowa and we have a mixed group from both sides that does redistricting. Iowa is said to be the gold standard for redistricting.

Nobody has been restricted from voting and voting is not any harder to do.

As for your 7 million people claim that is misleading. Almost all of those extra 7 million votes came from California and New York.

There is 50 individual state votes for the EC. There is no such thing as a national popular vote or candidates would travel to every state.

As for the EC Trump lost by about 80,000 votes. Both GA and AZ he lost by about 10,000 votes and WI by about 20,000 votes and NV by 30,000 votes. So it was close in many states. Even PA he lost by only 80,000 votes.

The swing states are all that matter. Las Angles and New York City do not decide elections.

If you want those 7 million votes then fight to remove the EC but stand by your descision.

The Democrats are becoming the biggest party in the state. Removing the EC would give them complete controll for a long time and they can abuse that power to make sure they never lose it. They already act like a dictatorship.

I like the EC because it's fair and it works. The 2 party system does need to be changed.

You should look at the new redistricting map for Iowa. It was just released for oppinion but not yet voted on.

Iowa bases districts off of population. We have 4 districts and they all have about the same population so it's fair.

I don't know enough about the Iowa redistricting (it looks like they have input by a non partisan committee, but that the map is drawn by the house (majority republican) with veto power to the governor (also a republican) so I don't know) But having equal sized districts is not a measure of the fairness of a redistricting plan in any way shape or measure. In fact federal law dictates that redistrcting result in equal sized districts. It's the gerrymandering of the populations voting patterns that kills you every time...

edit to add: certainly the iowa house has an over representation of republicans in office when you compare it to the popular vote of the presidential election (trump wins iowa 53 to 44 percent, yet republicans hold 59 percent of the lower house seats, and 64 percent of the upper house seats)

This is inanely opposite the reality. The Democrats and leftists have been blatant and hell bent for leather to upset and effectively destroy our constitutional republic for three to five decades now, quite openly since Obama's campaign promise to do just that.

I am sorry, but I really hate those easy phrases that are in fact meaningless. What you are in fact saying, let's think about it, is that if we ignore the will of 59 000 000 voters that represent nearly 20 percent of the population, and 15 percent of the EC, then the election would have been really really really close.
Makes about as much sense as saying that if we didn't count all the republican votes north of the mason dixon line, this election would have been a shellacking.

It's as if in the mind of those people, like the poster you responded to, voters from NY and CA are lesser citizens, who deserve to have their vote count less. Can you say anti-democratic?

The wise and prescient founders and framers specifically and consciously did not create a democracy; they created a republic for very valid reasons..

I wasn't talking so much about the EC, which I think is also flawed, but about the blatant dismissal of votes from NY and CA by one of the previous posters. As if they don't matter, BECAUSE they are from NY or CA. I wonder, what makes voters from NY and CA lesser citizens?

I don't disagree with this. Votes from CA and NY should not count less than others, but they shouldn't count more either.

He didn't say that. But if one extended the mason dixon line to the pacific ocean, california would be bifurcated messing up the geography of your post.

Which is why we need to dump the EC and go to one man one vote. == No more fly over country.

All states are checkerboarded, so geography is pretty useless on a state by state basis.

The district's are not the same size. They have about the same size of population. That is what makes it fair.

At one time I was VP of the Young Republicans in my County, Ronald Reagan turned me into an independent. With his "I'm not responsible for 70% of Americans",
speech, Mitt Romney convinced me to vote a straight Democrat ticket. On January 6th I became a rabid Anti-tRumper. If that's"partisan", then I AbsaByGodLutely AM!

No, that is not a reason to dump the EC. The EC elects a president based on the collective votes or the legislature of each individual state, exactly what the framers intended.
