life will change after covid, like it did after 9-11, there will be a new normal

for one, employers will be more insistent people stay home when sick than in the past, they may lessen with time, but it's gonna be there for a while, at least until a vaccine - planes will probably check temps going forward, you will be denied a flight if have a fever

The "new normal" was primarily at airports, nowhere else. Concerts will resume (none of this pu$$y social distancing/drive in concert bs). We will go back to dining the way we were and yes, handshakes and hugs will still exist. Kisses too.

I didn't see any radical changes in China after the SARS outbreak. Wet markets still existed, social gatherings still existed, China proves you can resume to how society functioned post-pandemic.

I agree. It's time to open up cautiously and most are doing it. As far as I know, my state is open with restrictions, except for mass gathering places, like theaters, theme parks, etc.

We should slowly go back to normal, but everyone should develop a "what if" plan. What if we start overwhelming the resources after we open completely up, but were doing fine with lower capacity requirements? We should have a easy-to-implement back out plan. Hopefully we will never have to shut down to this extreme again, which would be ideal. I do see what I'm talking about happening, though.

Imagine if Vegas got hit like NYC. Vegas is likely going to be forced to lower capacity for a period of time. (As will Disney, ball parks, etc.)

I think many people won't go to a game or the parks if they knew it would be like it's been in the past. A mandate wouldn't be needed. I got a quick glance at an article that says the airlines have no plans to reduce capacity. I wish them luck, but I'm thinking a whole bunch will pass.

To provide some perspective, I shudder to think what these numbers look like if we didn't take some time to slow the curve. It's definitely time to open up, but not full throttle. We don't need to go backwards.

For perspective, since everyone is quoting deaths and whatnot, and complaining that they are way over-counting covid deaths to prove their point, I suggest reading this. The deaths per day for most countries has increased dramatically over trends. That suggests we did slow the spread and we didn't overwhelm the resources. I'm not sure why so many don't consider this good news.

Prediction is tough.. It could have simple mutated like the Spanish flu did to a much milder strain.. But as long as we prolong by isolation the longer the real story goes untold.

Why are you bashing Trump for guidelines YOU approve of? So he was wrong for locking down all this time? By the way. We had enough ventilators. The hospitals weren’t over run. And we didn’t need the tests early on since testing doesn’t save lives. And now we have more tests then we need ATM. A vaccine will come when it comes. Treatments will arrive when they arrive. Trump hasn’t delayed that. So what are you bitching about again? Manufactured fake whiney outrage again?

Maybe he should force sick people back into the nursing homes like Cuomo did? Or maybe he should release prisoners?

Not where I live. No one wants any further damage from this virus, so even the poorest are fine with doing whatever it takes to avoid that. That'd be because they're not starving, and have all kept their homes - because Govt has looked after them. The same Govt which has done everything possible to give them an almost COVID-free nation.

That's because the VIRUS has no real plan ... other than proliferation. We're dealing with unknowns.

Demanding any kind of certainty is absurd in the context of a pandemic. It reveals a lack of resilience and fortitude.

No one pretends that. What IS 'abnormal', is this virus.

The reason they have 'endless lockdowns' is because they failed to do it properly in the first instance. And the citizens backed up that failure by refusing to comply with isolation protocols.

Have you not seen all the media stuff on poor people earning more than ever before during quarantine? I have relatives who are in that boat, and I guarantee to you that they do not want it to end. OTOH, I have wealthy friends who can't wait to start travelling and shopping again.

It's the first one which is this contagious, arriving at a point in time when billions of people are constantly moving around from place to place.

To understand the gravity of the situation, you must take such factors into consideration.

First, there hasn't been anything like this for a hundred years. Second, this is a COMPLETELY different world to that one. Everything we do in our modern lives spreads disease far more widely and thoroughly than the lives people lived in 1918. Third, this virus is producing permanent damage to body systems in younger people - and that's pretty much unprecedented in influenzas.

You can continue to pretend none of the above is real, but it will remain real regardless.
