    From USA today

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...s-what-congress-doing-gun-control/1916451001/

Moscow Mitch does not want this legislation to pass the senate. Not when the NRA has funded him to the tune of 1.26 million dollars

    https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/national/article200363759.html

He and his NRA buddies want to stall this legislation

And Trump does not want a bar of it. If he supports it he loses some of his base, if he doesn’t sign it he blows his chances of ever recruiting beyond his base

    Good.

UBCs are a total waste. We've had them in WA for several years now. At a cost of $10M/year, shootings have not meaningfully decreased and there has been ONE conviction total resulting from the law. That conviction was only obtained after the guy had shot someone and was found to have purchased the weapon illegally, which resulted in a slightly longer prison sentence.

Thats what our $10M/year got us.

State by state legislation is NOT going to work. Not when you can hop a car and be elsewhere in a couple of hours

The same law made it illegal to bring weapons into the state without a BGC. Zero convictions for that so far too.

I think it’s about time we learn more about the relationship between Maria Butina and the various people in the NRA, and how she managed to put a lot of Russian money into the NRA’s political action coffers.

it is a testament to the lingering power of this group, that they have managed to keep this out of the newspapers.

The only federal gun control law should be the 2nd amendment, which says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. All these gun control laws are already illegal.

And if I could prove to you that gun control WILL save lives?

There has been nearly one mass shooting a day in 2019 in the USA

How were background checks going to stop the purchase of these firearms? There was nothing on their records according to reports, that would have prevented legal purchase.

This bill will not make Americans safer

It just adds an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy and expense

Close to 40,000 people are killed a year in car accidents. We can probably reduce this number to almost nothing by putting speed governors in cars that limit speed to a max of 20MPH.

Lives are shattered daily by car crashes caused by illegal immigrants. Where is the liberal outrage?

The crybabies who wring their hands and continually bleat impotence in the face of the astronomical rate of firearm carnage in the US are becoming tiresome.

Meanwhile, it is obvious why the radical right would target El Paso.
Practicing Christian morality that could get you shot to death by a white supremacist in America today includes the mandates

    To feed the hungry.
To give water to the thirsty.
    To clothe the naked.
    To shelter the homeless

Doing a firedrill to rush something anything through so politicians can say "look what we passed" is folly and political opportunism. Letting emotions overcome us is how BAD legislation gets passed. Notice no one has come up wih legislation that would have prevented either of these shootings. It's not a gun issue that some new restriction on legal gun ownership will solve. It's a societal mental health issue. Everyone stay on recess engage in calm reflective discussions and stop tying to blame Trump for political reasons and try to come up with workable pragmatic solutions.

There is no solution to liberal culture insanity

There are time bombs already created by our society waiting to go off

And gutting the 2nd Amendment will not stop them

Outlawing swimming pools would save lives too. Should we outlaw everything that can be dangerous ? More people died in car wrecks the same day as this mass shooting and that happens every day 365 days a year. If saving lives is your goal outlaw cars

So, how many of these "shooters" purchased their weapon through private sales? Here in the US, we already have Universal Background check for retail purchases and yet most of these people were still able to buy weapons from retail outlets. These bills are nothing more than politicians giving the appearance that they are doing something....when they are actually doing nothing.

I had a friend who was a nurse in El Paso. She told me that their emergency room, especially on weekends, was always full of people coming across the border to get treated, after they had been stabbed or shot in Juarez, another city of beautiful vibrant multi-cultural sharing and caring.

Taking the "text book" definition of mass shooting and attempting to apply it to the context of what is being discussed....mentally deranged people that indiscriminately shoot strangers at large gatherings....is not very honest.

So, I have a question for the people that want to willingly give up their guns or force honest people to give them up:

What will you do to protect yourself and/or your family when "the elite" decides that the population is greater than our food supply and the herd needs to be "culled"?
Or maybe they just link "climate change" to over population and decide that exterminating non-essential people would reduce our carbon footprint?

Is it your blind faith in Government, thinking that they could never do that? When time and time again in our history of this planet, it has been proven that, not only could they, but they have.....even in our fairly recent history. Throughout history, the very first thing an "oppressor" does, to those they plan not oppressing, is to remove any means the oppressed have to defend themselves.

Neil deGrasse posted this over the weekend:

In the past 48hrs, the USA horrifically lost 34 people to mass shootings.

On average, across any 48hrs, we also lose…

    500 to Medical errors
    300 to the Flu
    250 to Suicide
    200 to Car Accidents
    40 to Homicide via Handgun

Often our emotions respond more to spectacle than to data.

Though he later caved to public "outrage", but he was 100% correct. We do not look at real cases of "mass deaths". We only look at the spectacle.

Every time these gun control debates happen I can't help but recall the aftermath of Katrina where the homes of the wealthy elite were protected by private military company (Blackwater) guards armed with AR rifles while out of State cops armed with body armor and AR weapons went house to house confiscating guns from ordinary people. Maybe one of the liberals posting here would care to comment on this.

Nice article over a year old about how much the NRA spent on lobbying. Absolutely nothing about the legislation or why it wasn't allowed to proceed.

You can't with one side of your mouth say legalizing drugs will solve drug related problems but having more restrictions on guns will solve gun related problems.
