You all recognize Dumbo the Clown by his orange hue. The other guy is Arthur Laugher......sorry......Laffer, the man who came up with what is called the Laugher.......sorry.......Laffer Curve. As you may know, it is an economic theory proposing the idea that tax cuts pay for themselves by way of increased economic activity offsetting the loss of revenue due to the cuts. The medal hanging around his neck is the Medal of Freedom.

Since the days of Reagan the Laugher......sorry......Laffer Curve has been the Repub's go to rationale every time they advocate a tax cut.........invariably designed to benefit the rich......done under the guise of it benefiting everyone. Simply put, it has never worked. Though that certainly hasn't stopped Repubs from repeatedly using it over and over.
Why the Laffer Curve is garbage
    https://ctmirror.org/2018/01/18/why-the-laffer-curve-is-garbage/

So........it comes as no surprise it hasn't worked this time around either when the Conman-in-Chief used it to justify the tax cut he signed in to law in order to boost his popularity in the polls.
Trump’s Tax Cuts Failed to Deliver
    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...-tax-cuts-failed-to-deliver-the-promised-boom

Which brings us to the double down. What does Don do in the face of failure? He gives it the most prestigious civilian award the US has to offer. It's as though he thinks he can convince The Following that putting lipstick on a pig changes the reality of the actual effect of the tax cut.

    AND HE'S RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a couple of things wrong with this. First of all, the goal of the US government is not, or at least should not, be to maximize taxes. The purpose to the government is to serve the US people and taxes are needed to do this, but not necessarly the maximum amount possible.

The concept of the Laffer curve is obviously correct. You will get zero tax income with 100% taxes and 0% taxes. It runs into two difficulties, the exact point where that occurs is unknown and the other is that once a point is selected, taxpayers react to that point which will most likely reduce taxes even further. A probably more important point about the Laffer curve is that you are also less likely to increase tax income if you increase the tax rate. It drives people away from the area and decreases motivation.

I do so enjoy seeing Repubs defend the "concept" of the Laugher Curve in the face of the overwhelming evidence of its repeated failure. It fits seamlessly with the "concept" that a failed businessman bailed out by his daddy's money who surrounds himself with competence and criminals, who is ignorant on policy, lies pathologically, who changes his mind according to what he hears on TV, gropes women, befriends dictators, disparages war heroes, and disregards laws..........is a smashing success as a prez worthy of their support.

The only failure is your reading comprehension. The concept is valid.
Neither raising nor lowering taxes automatically provides more tax revenue. For the simple reason, that people react to the change. They don't want to work for nothing and they don't want to work longer hours with little gain.

That's like saying the concept of a scientific theory is valid even after the lab results fail to validate it. But then, logic has never been a strong point of Trumpists.

Do you believe that the government will get any tax revenue with a tax rate of zero percent? Do you believe that the government will get any tax revenue with a tax rate of one hundred percent? Come on now. Don't be afraid. Answer.

I suppose we could have gone with advice of the democrat brain trust, and lied to the American people about an alien invasion, just to get more tax revenue.....

    Lets take a look....

So you actually think 100% taxes will increase revenue? Fascinating.

The problem with taxing our citizenry is "increase-ism". Each new generation will accept the tax they grew up with and then agree to another penny increase of tax thinking a small increase is fine. But the politicians are good at spending and they never have enough of our money. As a young lad in my state I can remember when we had no state sales tax or county sales tax. Than along came a 3% state sales tax. Today our sales tax is 7%, 6% state and 1% county.

The best part of all this was when Trump was telling Laffer how he became an expert on his theory while at Wharton.
Problem is Trump graduated in 68 and Laffer came up with the theory in 74.

It's perfectly legitimate to demand our tax dollars are well spent. That's a different debate than recognizing the failure of the Laugher Curve as an economic concept.

I couldn't stop laughing when Don said he had studied the Laugher Curve for a long time. His life has been spent grabbing vajayjays and cheating contractors.

I think its important to regularly point out how utterly stupid and incompetent Trump is, and how ridiculously foolish and gullible his followers are.

What is known is the "exact point" is never achieved..........thus the predictable failure of the "concept."

Failure? The revenue was more than the previous year. It went up at about the same rate as before. I ended up with a couple of thousand more dollars per year. The deficit went up considerably, but I cannot see how that was related to the tax cut.

The concept is good, if nothing else to remind us that raising taxes won't necessarily bring in more income.

    both sides support tax cuts,

just the right thinks the rich should get them and trickle down

and the left thinks the working class should get them and trickle up

I think that comment requires context. For the most part Dems favor cutting taxes as a stimulative measure when the economy is sluggish. After realizing the deficit was bigger than anticipated Clinton raised the marginal rate on the top income bracket to the dire predictions of economic doom by anti-tax Repubs. A prediction that didn't come true. In similar fashion, Obama proposed that the Bush tax cut for people making $250K+ be allowed to expire with the marginal rate going back to where it was before the cut. In both instances these Dem prez's were trying to be fiscally responsible in order to cut the annual deficit.
Repubs, on the other hand, pretend to be fiscally responsible by making the fatuous claim the tax cuts they want will not increase the deficit even though they have every time.
Typically, once the deficit is shown to have ballooned Repubs begin to talk about cutting back on SS and Medicare in order to fund the tax cuts for the wealthy.

And yet it was Obama who ran up the largest debt in the history of this nation.

The only thing that was accomplished by the Trump tax cuts is that the division between the rich and poor is deeper and more defined and the majority of American is in the poor column. The middle class is becoming extinct. Oh yeah -- and the national debt ballooned by $22 trillion.
