Has anyone had coincidental thoughts with background noise (TV, radio, etc.)? It used to happen to me 10 or 20 times a day. Is this normal? Is it just coincidence? Is it rare? It certainly is perplexing.
Subconscious picking up what the conscious hasn't yet. Have you ever not seen someone for a very long time, think about them, and then see them almost everyday for the next few weeks?
At the exact time that you are thinking about a phrase or obscure word like: forensics, for instance... you hear it on your TV or radio.
ah, gotcha. I have neither appliance to hand, so difficult to say. If I think of red wine after 5pm on a friday though, sometimes one appears in my hand.
By choice, which I'm not a furvent believer in choice.. but I've had many other surreal or confusing experiences.
If you have a recorder, record the tv, when that happens, there is a strong likelyhood, the word was mentioned prior to you thinking it.
I never know when it will happen so that is impossible... but it happens directly before, after or during an episode... positively.
I meant if you have a recorder, have it recording. Then when your phenomena happens, rewind and look for the reason.
Look up the laws of total probability on wiki and apply the formula. Random events often seem anything but random. There are a lot of words said on the radio and television and regardless of how unique you think the words or thoughts are eventually they will coincide with something being said on the tv or radio. The fact that it happens to you quite often can be explained by various variables including your conscious awareness of it happening. The same thing can be shown in studies done where the participants were told of certain numbers and what they mean if you keep seeing them in everyday life. Most of the participants began to notice those numbers everywhere because they were looking for them both consciously and subconsciously.
I think you're right and it's probably not abnormal but it gets weird when it happens a lot. Now it only happens a couple of times a day.
I'm not that good at math and the example given has known values. In my case, I don't know any of the values but it seems to me it would be calculus problem rather than algebra... (as x approaches infinity what is the probility of a given number of times of instances per day) like I said I'm not good at math.
Well the point is things often look random even though they really aren't. What you would actually want to do is write down the words or phrases you think and hear on the tv or radio at the same time. Then take note of the channels you are listening to and or watching. Look at the shows that are on throughout the day or the topics being discussed on the radio including and especially the ones that are on but you are not really watching because it's very probable that these words and phrases are actually entering your mind subconsciously and are then triggered again the next time the show is on or when certain events trigger them. Though the overall sequence looks random to you I bet the subsequences which is to say what is being said on these channels and what you think about will not be so random which in turn increases the probability of this phenomenon happening.
Like what?... Reasonable employment for the entire world?... maybe... uh... a maglev network that envelopes the world... wells and sprinkler systems for farmers... renewable energy.... that kind of thing?
This is because you noticed. It is actually happening in a persistent state at all times, but you don't notice. But when you do notice, you think it just happened...when it actually was always happening. Spooky.
On more than a few occasions, I've had emotionally intense dreams consummated by infomercials poisoning my mind while I'm asleep.
For me it is usually the news. I will wake up and say "now why the heck did I have that stupid dream" and realize it is related to some news story that has aired.
My wishes aren't answered and neither are my thoughts appearing on TV, but it drives me bonkers when I can't hear what they are saying because the background music is so loud. Lots of shows like that, and I basically have given up watching them because I can't understand a word anyhow. So, if anyone contacts any TV producers about coincidental appearances, let them know about that too, would you? - - - Updated - - - Probably because so much of what concerns us, and what is happening around us, is being dealt with in our dreams
""""""but it drives me bonkers when I can't hear what they are saying because the background music is so loud."""" I am so glad it's not just me!
