I think we all are aware of the bombing in London that occurred, and I believe we all are holding the victims of the bombing in Manchester in our thoughts and prayers. In the meantime, I thought I'd share some thoughts from John Farnam, the noted self-defense instructor, regarding last night's terror attack. A valid discussion for this forum? I think so; as it goes to the heart of the issue in my honest opinion.

"There is an immeasurable distance between late... and too late!" - Og Mandino

    Today’s events in the UK:

Another terrorist suicide bombing, this time at the entrance to a packed entertainment arena, just as popular concert ended. At least nineteen dead on the spot (a number sure to go up), twenty times that number injured.

For those souls, in the unlikely event Western Civilization ever gets serious about terrorism, it is already too late. For the rest of us, it is time to reevaluate our lifestyles and routines, once more!

There is no logical reason to believe these attacks upon the innocent in the UK, Western Europe, and CONUS will diminish any time soon, nor is there any reason to believe that governments will do anything effective to stop them! There is “security,” and there is “security theater.” We have precious little of the former, far too much of the latter.

    We see the results!

    Given the foregoing:

    1) Beware of crowds! My advice is to stay away from concerts, sporting events, large gatherings of any kind, particularly those with a political or religious theme, particularly Christian and Jewish. When you must go, keep your head up and stay sober. Don’t get too far from the door. When you see “trouble in the making,” get out of there!

    2) Carry a trauma kit! During a shooting or bombing attack, many wounded and immobile remain untreated for an hour or more. It may be a while before any kind of medical help arrives. Many bleed-out in the interim! Tourniquets, IBD’s, and Combat Gauze are literal lifesavers, but only when you have them with you and are practiced in their use!

    3) Go armed! There is no “substitute” for loaded guns that you can get into action instantly. There are some forms of evil that cannot be adequately repelled short of gunfire. You must be prepared and ready to deliver it, with precision and adequate volume. Places where I can’t be armed, such as nightclubs and theme parks, I don’t go!

    4) Don’t go anywhere without your cell phone! They don’t always work, but in an emergency your ability to communicate will be critical to your survival. In addition, dress so that you can walk several miles when necessary, on gravel. Have cash, credit cards. Carry a tactical flashlight.

    5) Forget offshore travel for the foreseeable future, particularly to the UK, Europe, anywhere in the Middle East, Mexico and anywhere in South America. Even when traveling domestically, keep informed, keep your head up. Stay away from big metro areas, particularly NYC, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, and a host of others. Be prepared to cancel travel plans, even at the last minute, when there are genuine safety concerns.

    6) Understand that you’re on your own! Police do what they can, but “protection” is not going to follow you around like an obedient puppy. The one, and the only one, who will be called upon to save your life, is going to be you. You are going to have to learn to live with that!

Western Civilization has still not woken-up, and may never! Down here in peon-land, Operators don’t wait for “permission.” We look-after our own best interests, and we don’t apologize!

“Now remember, when things look bad, and it looks as if you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. Because, when you lose your head, and you give up, then you neither live nor win. That's just the way of things.”

Josey Wales (played by Clint Eastwood) in the 1976 feature film, “The Outlaw Josey Wales”

I don't go anywhere without my Leatherman multi tool and a firearm. If they aren't welcome, I'm not welcome. That means I don't do large crowds and most stores.

The time has come to tell retailers and other businesses that if your firearm isn't allowed, you are boycotting the place. If we did that, they would get the message. We live in dangerous times and can no longer afford to play political games.

That is exactly what I do. I make a point of going into businesses that are posted with "no guns" signs and inform the management I will not be doing business with them in the future and I explain why in no uncertain terms.

I can get better prices in the Internet, and I cook and prepare weird stuff, at home.

Any place with a no Guns sign will never have my custom.
    Until the sign comes down.

On the other hand, I went into a store that had a sign:

    "Hunters Welcome !!!"

Haven't seen that before. I'm going to start looking for them. It would be a gun show item.

In theory these are good suggestions but I refuse to let my life be controlled by radical Islamic terrorism. Carrying a gun, knife, asp, or anything else will likely not save you in the event you are in the immediate vicinity of a crazed terrorist with a truck, car, bomb, or any of a dozen or so other options that can take your life. I carry a firearm for the protection of me and my immediate family and I look at everything as condition amber. I check for exits, sit facing the entry door in restaurants, and am generally aware of what is around me. Will I ever get to the point of avoiding stores because of crowds? No. Will I not patronize a large store that has a "no guns" sign? No, because I totally ignore the signs and go in and do my business and get out. Will I spend more money in a gun friendly store? Yep. Radically changing my lifestyle because that is what "they" want me to do will never happen. End of story.

Good, keep up tbe good work.

My own personal slant is thusly and good for ME only....... no one else is advised to agragree.

I carry a sidearm, not because of any threat or danger etc...... I carried as an active LEO, Retired, I still carry.

    A quote out of a book I wrote;

The day may come when a blitz atack or bombing or other undefendable scenario may occur, so quickly, you will hardly have time to say; "Goodbye !"
However, for the most we will not worry about such cases, we will prepare for survivable scenarios, not complete no win situations.

Even if someone gets the drop on you, all is not lost !
and if you get shot, you might not die, and when an opportunity presents itself, do not hestitate and act !........

Actually I feel pretty safe in a few foreign countries and cities. There's probably no safer place than Dubai. But as far as
I've never felt unsafe in Dubai. However, would you really want to be a guest of the Emir in one of his prisons?

I agree with your idea of going everywhere with your firearm and even the retail stores should start welcoming customers who wear firearms! but coming to think about that, if these so called terrorist scum-bags can easily find their way with different types of explosives and were even able to transport it into a supposed secured areas, what then do you think will happen when government resolves to allow firearms in public places? But if consider everyone to have a licensed firearm to protect the community, that will be a great deal. I have an old Remington that my granddad left for and it still works perfectly due to the high maintenance level I offer to it. I use best quality gun cleaning kits and quality gun oil - odorless to keep the rifle life and functioning. We pray for peace and for our kids to live fulfilling lives.

I suspect that the first time an armed civilian brings down a terrorist, it will not make the evening news. But I can tell you one thing. I've never heard of anyone trying to rob or commit a terrorist act at a gun show.

That's because they don't allow guns at gun shows.

What??? You must have meant they don't allow terrorists at gun shows. What do you call a terrorist at a gun show? Target practice.

Someone once told me there was no crime at guns shows because they don't allow guns there.
It replaced my previous "dumbest statement ever", and I quoted it in my sig. Kept it there for at least a year.

Do you think terrorists, or even common criminals, abide by "no gun" signs now in public venues?

I agree and avoid "gun free zones" when possible. The only exception is my kid's school functions, federal property, and I don't carry into job sites because I like my job. Otherwise, my gun is on my hip and usually no further than my car if I can't legally carry it.

Do most retailers ban guns where you live? Those places are few and far between in Texas. I know of a couple of movie theaters and a couple of restaurants, which I avoid. We have more places that ban open carry, which is understandable. They don't ban my gun, but I don't scare THEIR sheeple customers also. A fair tradeoff.

This sign is required by a retailer at all entrances with 1" letters to ban concealed carry or they have to hand you a card with this info or tell you verbally. A "gunbusters" sign or any different sign can legally be ignored in Texas.

In Georgia some places ban weapons and some don't. I noticed a Goodwill store, the mall and a Waffle House all had anti - gun signs posted. Kroger grocery stores don't put up such signs and I see people carrying in Walmart.

At least here your employer cannot prevent you from carrying a weapon in your vehicle unless it is on private property and the parking is not accessible to the public.

One day, when the pendulum swings the other way, it might be illegal everywhere and you will have to decide if you had rather be carried by six or carried by twelve.

You would like Texas. Most places won't ban guns because they know people will shop elsewhere. We don't have Constitutional carry yet, but our self defense laws make sense.
