What was the first human thought? In the film "2001", it was the realization that you can control/destroy something- in that case animals for meat. What were the first human thoughts? And let's keep on topic and please contribute.
I don't know, but I suspect Wizard From Oz is pretty close to the mark. On a tangentially related note - I've always been curious as to how people thought before language was developed. A person's stream of consciousness tends to be in the form of an internal discussion or monologue (I, for example, think "in English"). Did they think in visual terms? Did they not have a stream of consciousness as we know it? It's an interesting question.
My guess -. first humans/homo sapien/primates ) , like all life forms, did not need to think . it acted on Instincts , + its need to survive, by whateve methods/ means .
I think we can assume they thought visually. Humans are a very visual species and from all appearance we always have been. We have always been a communal creature so again, before language there had to be ways to communicate needs, desires plans etc. I think watching troops of various primates would give us a good understanding of how we thought and communicated in our earliest days
I did a little experiment with this once. Our family went to a crowded shopping area. My wife and myself plus four daughters. I fell to the back of our group so I could see the position of my children. My wife took point, but blow me down the two oldest kids took each flank, keeping the younger children in a protective screen. So what I hear you say. Next time you watch a wildlife show involving gorillas, see what happens when they are on the move
Bet your family would just LOVE to know that daddy and beloved thinks of them as a troop of gorillas! lol..how romantic and sentimental. Hey...happy mother's day Mrs. Oz
LOL - no I have always been interested in anthropology. The things that make us human, the things that betray our ancestory
According to 2001, apes became truly human when they started fighting wars against their own kind, and the big climax is when ape killed another ape with a weapon. At that moment, he became a man.
That may be true but at some point humans did start thinking. The question was "what was their first thought?"
The first thought was probably "you got it, I want it, give it to me or I'm going to bash your head in."
Depends on what you would call human , if referring to Homo genus , human like ancestors of Homo Sapient. The oldest of human like ancestors (Ergaster/Erectus) had to cooperate during hunting and their fossils show that they did took care of their sick and wounded , this requires thinking as well as vocalisations that can be interpreted . For the user who asked about language, you may wanna check Bushmen 's , it is the oldest language around.
I would like to think the first human thoughts were "how?" and "why?" but it was probably "am I more hungry or horny?"
