Mayor Pete spends more money on private jets than any other Democratic presidential candidate

Buttigieg's campaign spent more than $300,000 on private-jet travel this year, the most among all Democratic presidential candidate hopefuls.

But there's one problem: Buttigieg has called Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal "the right beginning," and just this week warned the world has 12 years before climate catastrophe.

The Associated Press reported former Vice President Joe Biden ($256,000), Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Waren ($60,000), Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ($18,000), and California Sen. Kamala Harris ($17,000) have also splurged on private jets. All of them have also voiced support for the Green New Deal. Biden's campaign said the cost of offsetting carbon emissions contributed to the high cost of his expenses.

Mayor Pete spent $300k on private jets. At $3000 per flight hour that is roughly 100 flight hours.

A G280 burns approximately 237 gallons of jet fuel per hour, and 9.57 kilograms of carbon dioxide are emitted per gallon of jet fuel. That means seven hours of flight time would produce 16.5 metric tons. Damn Mayor Pete, your fairy butt produces 235.71 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year just from your air travel. You better not mention this to Greta or she might say that you can’t fart anymore to balance out your carbon footprint.

People like those who comprise the NPP committee tend to be the type of fools who would award Greta with anything. She’s only famous because of Twitter.

Never in human history did grown men and adults base their political and economic decisions on what an uneducated little girl has to say. A sign of the times!

Indeed, a sign of the times!! Grown men... and women, unfortunately, are so steeped in materialism and so busy pleasing their greed-driven egos, that only an innocent child is able to catch their momentary attention. THAT is the sad state of the world's affairs! None of the Big Wigs praises and supports her. Why not? What harm would come from cleaning up our world?
What better solution do the world leaders have?

Greta's message could very well come to us from a higher source to warn us before it is too late.

If I wanted to save the planet, I’d go outside and pick up some trash. I don’t need to have my attention grabbed by a know-it-all brat who’s only doing this to satisfy her own (and her parent’s) ego.

Don't criticize the messenger, pay attention to the message. There is far more to it than picking up trash!!
Since the industrial, nuclear, chemical and pharmaceutical revolution with their by- and waste products we have been polluting our earth, rivers, lakes, oceans and air. Most of these pollutants are not that visible once buried or drowned, except what goes into the air.

Have you never heard of the great Pacific Garbage Dump? It's bigger than Mexico!
Coastal populations put about 8m tonnes of plastic rubbish into the oceans in 2010, an annual figure that could double over the next decade!

Add to all that oil, gasoline, liquid chemicals, also detergent, dyes and perfumes!
Food animals get raised on antibiotics and hormones!!
Vegetables grow in artificial fertilizers, pesticides and weed killers. In the store they get sprayed with a formaldehyde solution to keep them looking crisp and fresh for days and weeks!
All these chemicals get washed into our groundwater. Decades ago they already found DDT in the arctic!!!

Anyway, I don't want to discourage you from picking up garbage and put it into the appropriate recycle containers. I, too have gone around and picked up garbage. There is no end to it!! People need to be educated, preferably already starting in the elementary schools!

Hitler was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize by a Swedish Social Democrat, Erik Gottfrid Christian. To be fair, I assume he was being bitingly satirical.

Still, in order to stop Great’s temper tantrum, as well as AOC’s, and give her what she wishes, the end of capitalism, industrialization, and fossil fuels, governments will need to violate the individual rights of billions, and will end up murdering millions.

Perhaps some think I exaggerate about what will happen if AOC and Greata have their way. I suggest they study the ecological ban on DDT—safest and most effective pesticide ever invented saved millions in WW II from dysentery and cholera, and had almost eradicated malaria off the planet before it was banned (Racheal Carson felt bad about the color of Robin eggs)—won the Nobel Price in Medicine for its inventor, Paul Hermann Müller.

Now, the Hong Kong idealists, they are souls worthy of the Prize. https://www.hongkongfp.com/2020/02/06/hong-kong-pro-democracy-movement-nominated-nobel-peace-prize/

Well, sure, but you can’t solve the big problems if no one’s paying attention to the small ones. Ms. Greta’s ego would rather be on camera at the UN in front of millions, rather than picking up trash in a small locality and encouraging the locals there to do the same. But that wouldn’t garner her ‘likes’ on Twitter, now would it...?

While I agree with pretty much everything you have posted here in the way of facts, you are incorrect in saying 'pay attention to the (Greta's) message.'

Greta wants certain actions mandated. Greta wants what she believes to be laws. Greta herself has done nothing other than repeat words, that invariably looks like she reads of a paper. Greta has played right into the media's want for a 'hero' to appeal to the young masses.

I would prefer to see the person who walks around picking up garbage off the street or beaches or in fields and meadows get the recognition. They are actually doing something... walking the walk.

Just highlights that Trump is only one of three Presidents who were so divisive that they were impeached.

I disagree. Trump was impeached because he's so effective he absolutely had to be impeached, or be re-elected.

But he'll be re-elected anyway. Get ready for the Scream-to-the-Sky II :D

I did that here in my town. Someone asked: "What are you doing?" "Cleaning up my town", was my answer. "Oh! Good Luck!" I soon had to give up due to an accident. I also asked myself, why are you cleaning up other people's garbage??
You see, there one needs a person like Greta, who inspires and rattles the establishment's cages. Sadly, the low-lifers and the mob have now destroyed her young spirit with their relentless mockery, insults and criticism. Instead of coming to her aid and helping to make it a successful movement, they degrade and tear her down. She would have to break down walls and kick the Big Wigs in the balls. For that she is much too young and gets easily hurt.

To clean up this planet is a monumental task that would require the will and participation of the majority of people. It would also require new ways of doing business, of growing crops and raising healthy animals. Humanity would have to come together and tackle the task one project at a time! But Greta kicked the first stone and it resonated with millions of fans. THAT was her task! Now someone like YOU needs to follow up and carry the idea a little further, put some organization into that movement and start the first project... eliminate all plastics!! We have managed for thousands of years without it, so why not now?

There are already small pockets of establishments who practice a humane and healthier way of living. Google for organic and bio dynamic farms in Europe and North America!

Sorry to hear you are part of the problem! Lots of people have tried to tackle the smaller problems, it just doesn't catch. I have seen the Rotary club members going along certain highway stretches and haul the junk out of the ditches once a year. Very noble, and every passerby gives a thumbs up. This has been going on for at least a decade that I have noticed, but the Great Pacific Garbage Patch keeps growing bigger and bigger!!! The localized garbage pickup has not yet hit the root of the evil... the conscience of the masses and of governments.

I suggest every village, town and city should be ordered to put together a group of able bodied people, start with volunteers!, and send them on tax payers money to the Great Pacific dump, and for a week at a time have them work on retrieving, collecting and transporting the trash for proper disposal.
Proper Disposal Facilities? Do we have such a thing?? If not then it is high time to build an incinerator for that purpose and use the heat for heating buildings and or greenhouses etc. I believe they already have such a thing in Europe.

So, dear Goomba, put your Ego to work and be the first to actively promote this idea. IF I'm still alive at that time, I will nominate you for the Nobel Prize of ordinary citizen's achievement!!

    Plastics, and other contaminates.

In response to your previous posting, and this, I am what I call 'light green'. I cut back on my plastic usage, I don't ask others to. I pick up garbage, I don't ask others to. I plant trees and plants, I don't ask others to. I don't use synthetic fertilizers, I don't ask others not to.

Greta demands this or that, she insults people, and acts like a petulant child.

    Do you understand the difference?

I suggest nothing. Like I said, if I want to save the planet, then I’ll go outside and pick up the trash, as I’ve done in the past. I don’t need anyone to see me doing it, and I don’t need a stupid prize. The universe is thankful for my actions, and that’s good enough.

Apparently not! I am on Greta's side. Since I raised children myself and observe now a flock of grand-kids, I can understand young people! Old age is a blessed time... one becomes more understanding, tolerant, kinder, more loving and less egocentric. Many of us, at one time or another, have been full of pep and vinegar like Greta. But perhaps most of us were put in our places or told to forget it, not possible, not realistic, the world is not that idealistic. And so our enthusiasm of fixing the world's ills was drained into the sand. Contrary to us, Greta received encouragement from her parents and others. She could do no harm, so, why not let her go and see what happens? Yes, what happened? Greta was celebrated at first as the new "Wonder Child", but then voices from less sympathetic people, like Mr. Trump of the United States, who has a big EGO and who's daughter is a model business woman, criticized and belittled Greta!

Young Greta doesn't want to sell anything and make lots of money. She just wants to gather like-minded folks who would join her and help her to get through to the big polluting corporations and governments who allow pollution for the sake of the economy... never mind how many fish, wildlife AND humans have to suffer and die! Think of Agent Orange for example!!! Some people got rich on it!! But what did it do to people who were exposed to it??
And that a generation after?? Why do so many US veterans commit suicide? How much misery has the US brought to Afghanistan? Iraq? Libya? Yemen?
That sort of mindset has to change first!

I do admire you for your light green colour!:handshake: You and I would already make a little team, and we should talk to and show others how to garden without chemicals!

I don't just want to harp on the Big Western Powers, it is only because I live here and am part of it. The pollution in India is supposedly much worse! And China likewise!
Wherever the homo sapiens gather there is cause for concern!! Lemuria had to sink; then Atlantis... who comes next? Europe or America?

Not her parents, but George Soros who is the advocate and financial supporter of anything extreme to cause chaos and bring about the one world order; whether it be liberalism or Islamic extremism. Who do you think supports her?:oldman:

Well, you are certainly right about one thing -- the effects of CO2 are considerably different as one measures the effects at higher and higher altitudes... that is now indisputable. And it is also indisputable that the staggering, "J-curve" increase in living human population does definitely increase all forms of pollution -- from heating (especially over urban areas), and immense amounts of trash and toxic pollution in the air, and on land, and in the oceans (especially).

There is no doubt in my mind that we must (MUST) move from burning oil, coal, natural gas, etc., in order to produce the bulk of the energy we must have to function as a civilized world. I have staunchly recommended moving with all speed, no matter what it costs, to the development of hydrogen fusion reactors, which basically run on molecules found in sea water and release oxygen as an 'exhaust'. It would be an inexhaustible source of energy, with no toxic consequences.

Why aren't we doing THAT? Why aren't we at least taking steps toward doing that, instead of having 'advocates' running around irresponsibly, railing around about taxing everybody to death in countries where air pollution actually has decreased dramatically in the last forty years?! The biggest polluters in the world, by far, are China and India! Shouldn't those countries be forced to clean up their messes themselves?

And yes, the other highly-suspected cause of climate change that we are seeing now is very likely attributable to the sun itself. We should make every effort to understand what the sun is doing right now, to understand how that is different from what the sun does periodically throughout the millennia, and to put everything in perspective....

exactly... i can attest to the fact that ddt was harmless to humans... when we were kids, the town would spray the entire neighborhood with ddt, driving up & down every street several times per year... we called them 'the fog man' & when they were coming a bunch of us would jump onto our bicycles and pedal furiously to keep up with him because it was fun riding in the 'fog'... done that for a decade or more & none of us have ever come down with cancers nor blood born illnesses... that was fifty years ago & we're all still here (except for one whom was killed in a car accident)
