Just as I have a right to not speak to the police without my lawyer present or, in the case of the Boston bomber, write on a piece of paper.

What loss of liberty has personally effected you? But for the media reports, I wouldnt even be aware of any of the Patriot act as none of it has ever had any impact on myself.

Yes you do have a right to not speak to the police. No, you dont have a right to be read that fact.

It's not the loss of liberty, it's the bills that are enacted that give the government legal means to get around my rights. At no point would I have allowed cops in Boston to enter my house. I'm not going to shoot at them, that's just absurd, but I'm definitely not just going to let them into my house, as if I've done something wrong.

The fact is it doesn't have to personally effect me to have an overall effect on me. If they can do it in Boston, they can do it anywhere.

Maybe not but some folks don't know what their rights are. If they are read their rights, they know what they have a right to. However, off topic, I find it funny that the bombing suspect was very willing to work with the police until his Miranda rights were read. Once he knew what his rights were, he asked for a lawyer. Although nothing really came out of it, except that they were lone wolves, still find it funny.

Why is it 31%? Shouldn't it be much less?

It's disconcerting that 100 million American adults, give or take
would cede essential liberties and more arbitrary authority
    to central planner facilitated "security"

As predicted, we're doomed to bondage....

Enacted martial law and began entering folks homes without a search warrant. One of the threads had a video of the cops clearing out the entire house.

    - - - Updated - - -

I wish it was a lot less. Unfortunately, it isn't. However, at least 61% don't want more liberties taken from them. If we find a positive out of it, at least that's it.

Other than the title created by whoever posted the video, I dont see anything to indicate it was an illegal search and nothing to indicate martial law

How do I, or anyone else for that matter, have a choice if the government wants to restrict civil liberties?

Fight back against it. Whatever that means to folks. That could mean from a political stand point or by lethal force. I chose the political stand point.

If I can inform folks of varying issues, allow them to see errors in varying ways, maybe they will realize how messed up any given situation is. Of course folks can say this is an impossible task or a futile effort, my point would simply be that it's a lot better than expecting to defeat a military with force.

In with that mixed bag, some folks don't even know what their rights are. Some folks probably don't even know the amendments to the Constitution let alone who our Founding Fathers were or why the Revolutionary War was fought. Folks are being educate with whatever garbage folks want to give them. It's not to make them better, it's to make them into just smart enough folks to do their crappy jobs, for crappy pay, and crappy benefits. The reality is folks don't want American citizens to realize how badly they're getting reamed, I'd even go as far as say some of them don't even care.

If I can educate one person, give one person a different perspective that can help everyone out, it's a win in my book.

Literally fighting back is suicide. Fighting back via political spectrum is just as hopeless when the people in positions of authority desire liberty restricting methods that normal every day people simply cannot escape out from under.

Maybe, but which one poses a better opportunity? You and me agree that literally fighting back is suicide, we know where the end is on that. The only aspect I see left is informing others of the issues at hand. If folks begin to see and smell the corruption that these politicians put forth, either they will stop voting for them or they will be in such an uproar that no political figure will be safe in their seats anymore.

I say it's time for a 100% change of system. The system isn't working, folks don't pay attention to politics, and most simply are one issue voters. I completely understand when people say they don't have time to keep up on these things, that's when they need to find avenues to keep them involved (IE: Emails with current events, debating on forums, talking to co-workers, etc). People just go on about their lives, until the next 4 years comes around and folks vote for another President.

My wife keeps telling me, 'There's nothing you can do, they're there for another 4 more years'. The sad thing is, most people don't even realize that folks can get impeached. They assume folks will be there for the long run and there's nothing we can do. I disagree with that notion and will continue on until I find a way to change that. If I can't, so be it. At least I can say I tried.

Nonsense. Police can hold people for 48 hours for questioning without even charging them with a crime, let alone reading them their rights. And they can arrest them and still not read them their miranda rights. They simply cant use any of the evidence gathered to prosecute them. The constituion protects our rights against self incrimination, NOT a right to be read our rights by the police. And this is the same as it was BEFORE the patriot act.

Informing people is good, but I must say, if you aim to achieve the things you desire, then you must get at people when they're still young and impressionable. Furthermore, your propaganda (not meant in a perjoritive fashion) must be balanced, razor true and persuasive if it is to be effective. That is a difficult equalibrium to maintain when you are talking about eager young minds... and not so eager minds. Not to mention the fact that too much honesty about one's homeland could potentially radicalize certain individuals, you know, depending on the various makeups of their being. Nevertheless, robust education of our youth is necessary to create, among other things, informed young citizens of voting age once they have completed their required high school learning and received a diploma.

However great that may sound, it is, and will remain for the perceivable future for most, nothing more than a pipedream. So instead of starting at homeplate where the advantage is in your court, you must rely on teaching old dogs new tricks with all of the subsequent built in over the years preconceived notions, biases and personal preferences that go with a slate already drawn on. Some can be re-molded, recast and reset, but most are unreachable - their conditioning is simply too great to overcome.

And as to impeaching a sitting President of the United States - certainly it is possible, and each president does something during their term either overt or clandestine that is worthy of being fired, but as time progresses, accountability and responsibility for actions will be muted by things like plausible deniability or executive privilege, thus negating the likelihood of a successful impeachment.

At any rate, if you're going to be a voice of reason on the Internet, I suppose you ought to make your efforts more than worth your while (I.e go for profit) since if it is your mission to espouse the truth of the world, our country and your state, then you should know up front that people in positions of authority generally frown upon things such as that, since their stated position all too often deviates from the truth, and exposing them and their lies to a mass audience is certainly taken note of.

I think that's a fair assessment. I believe the internet is a good starting point, but I also try to talk to folks in my everyday life as well. The internet, most folks tend to want to insult because they can remain anonymous. If you challenge them in person, it makes it a lot harder for them to simply insult me. Granted, they might do it behind my back, but they won't be the first to spat hateful slurs behind my back and surely won't be the last.

However, the focal point of my stance is to get people to think for themselves. Too much of this following behind a policy maker has created the mess that we're in. It's not about what I have to say is the truth, it's about what others need to realize is false propaganda. They continue to walk those lines and expect to keep doing the same thing and everything will be alright. There are countless videos of Obama's 2008 election, they were crying, cheering, parading, and doing all kinds of idiotic nonsense that I was appalled by. Why? President's aren't God's, their not leaders, their just simple human beings. The folks who voted for him wanted to carry him on a chair as if he was the all being that was going to end the mess in this country.

Impeachment, I don't expect it to come. People love Obama and will stand behind him. Furthermore, I'd rather see him get through this and then when all of his policies hit (IE: Affordable Care Act), let everyone feel the brunt force of it. Of course I might feel some of that (My parents already are, my dad's union has said that if all employee's spouses could obtain health insurance, they need to get it through their company. This is to cut cost on their end), but folks don't realize reality until it sets in. I told a bunch of people when I first found out about the payroll tax was going back up to it's original state, a lot of people turned a blind eye to it. Once their first check came in and they noticed it, everyone I talked to you was like 'What the hell is going on'? The reality is most folks don't care or don't pay attention to the world around them. They stay in line with the rest of the country, afraid to fray from it.

In the end, I see your point on going for profit. However, Alex Jones and a few other 'conspiracy theorists' have killed that avenue for me. I may venture into a blog, of shorts. It all starts with getting people to think first. Once people begin to think for themselves, then the truth will come to them by themselves. So it's not really 'listen to what I have to say' but 'listen to what your gut has to say'.

imo people are more concerned about civil liberties only because there have been so few successful domestic terrorist attacks. people would have felt the same way before 9-11. heck, george bush would have felt that way before 9-11. people would have been horrified at the idea of the usa torturing people

if you can get the herd worked up into a frenzy. they will stampede in almost any direction, including off a cliff

Yeah I don't know about that. The Patriot Act was epic bull(*)(*)(*)(*) that set a lot of precedent, however the progressives abused it. Instead of looking for real terrorists the progressives have labeled patriot groups and anyone that is anti-government 'extremists' that are more dangerous than Islamic extremism. Of course they do that so they can use the Patriot Act to violate the civil rights of individuals associated with these groups. Oh and of course they're militarizing local police forces..

The Patriot Act has been used to create a fascist police state. And anyone who questions the government is the enemy.

You do realize the police need probable cause, a warrant that explicitly states what they're looking for and a judges signature?

Oh yeah I forgot, because of the Patriot Act they don't need any of that just as long as the fascist authorities label the person they're attacking and raping a terrorist.
