The country surely seems to be very divided. Neither major party has a solid foothold. Rebellion is rampant in both major parties. Stalemate seems to be the order of the day. Congress and the House of Representatives are inept at legislating as the Constitution intended. Presidents act like dictators and use Executive Orders to push their agenda. Meanwhile the National Debt keeps rising, more than half the country is dependent on government for some sort of assistance, our ability to defend our country is precarious and anger seems to be the norm of the day. I believe it is time to invoke Article IV of the Constitution and let the people decide what type of government do they want. What are your feelings on this and any input that you would like to implement.

Article Five of the United States Constitution describes the process whereby the Constitution, the nation's frame of government, may be altered. Altering the Constitution consists of proposing an amendment or amendments and subsequent ratification. Amendments may be proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a convention of states called for by two-thirds of the state legislatures.[1] To become part of the Constitution, an amendment must be ratified by either—as determined by Congress—the legislatures of three-quarters of the states or state ratifying conventions in three-quarters of the states.[2] The vote of each state (to either ratify or reject a proposed amendment) carries equal weight, regardless of a state's population or length of time in the Union. wikipedia

Screwing with the Constitution would be a major disaster

Most people and even are elected officials are ignorant of the Constitutions original meaning. Both parties are guilty of bending the rules and not obeying the original intent of the Constitution. The people seriously need to be better educated. Who would have ever thought that our university's would become the bastion to stop free speech and the exchange of ideas.

Deteriorated values and obsession about financial status are responsible or our division. We couldn't agree on how to amend it, anyway.

Somebody better start to think about fixing it or we all will go down with the ship.

    Exactly.

That is why there is ZERO chance of it happening.

The country has had far worse "divisions" in the past and survived them BECAUSE of the Constitution.

Save the ego. It only feels " like the worst" because you're involved and not reading history...for which you know the outcome. Hint...THEY did not

    Question -
What are you arguing for? Thread title says article 4, body of post says article 5

    Article 4: States' powers
States have the power to make and carry out their own laws.

    Article 5: Amendments
The Constitution can be changed. New amendments can be added to the US Constitution with the approval by a two-thrids vote in each house of Congress (967,281) and three-fourth vote by the states (38).

I don't propose anything . I am just saying the country needs to decide" what do they want." More states rights vs Federal? Paying our way as we go instead of living of the backs of our future children. Discuss the appointments of judges, term limits, veto power, executive orders. Many are calling for election by popular vote vs electoral college. Immigration seems to be a hot issue at present.

Article five is about amending the constitution.

    Not making general changes.

IF you invoke it you are either talking about an amendment or misusing the article.

Actually 38 states have filed different forms for a Constitutional Amendment since 2008.

The Constitution isn't at fault; WE ARE. Common values are needed to transcend situational differences in order to achieve the unity necessary to make government “by the people” successful. . . . We need a moral revival.

I agree. We need to adhere to the Constitution as intended. We need to hold our elected officials responsible. There are others though who believe the Constitution needs to be changed. We have judges today who are clearly making law to forward their agenda.
