Who do you think has control of your national sovereignty at the present? Mexico? China? Russia? the EU? Israel? Or aliens from the outer Universe?

    Or all of the above?

Wish that I hadn't watched that - I fear for the future of mankind even more now!

Who wants to bring down America wasn't my question was it. My question was directed at your earlier preposterous post about "reclaiming our national sovereignty" and I asked you who you thought had "control of your national sovereignty at the present?

So, are you willing to answer clearly and unambiguously, are will you dodge the question again?

So making all Americans pay more for some things protects workers in some industries from having to meet competition? Why don't we do that with everything?

And I still don't see how it addresses income disparity.

How does making me pay more taxes to protect some industries that can't meet competition have anything to do with national sovereignty?

When the cpmpetition is nations paying workers pennies per hour and no environmental standards to drive up costs thats a race to the bottom for America that I choose to forego

Pluto WAS a planet. We changed the definition of planet and Pluto no longer fit. Whether there are more hurricanes is a matter of fact.

Answer my question, what do tariffs have to do with national sovereignty? How does the government taxing me for things I need increase it?

More importantly, how does the government protecting American industries who are making expensive/shitty products help anyone, including those industries?

    I said-
"Not so long ago, the majority believed that Pluto was a planet."

Yes. Thanks for rephrasing what I said. We declassified Pluto as a planet because we learned the existence of dwarf planets.

Meaning that we were wrong in our understanding of planets. As you said, the definition had to be revised.
We learned something new and the consensus changed. Thats the point.

And the larger point that you missed was that I used it as an analogy to point out your fallacious argument.

    Im an atheist. So...

NASA Study: Mass Gains of Antarctic Ice Sheet Greater than Losses
    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddar...ns-of-antarctic-ice-sheet-greater-than-losses

If it was in fact getting hotter, wouldn't the ice loss be greater than gain?

Artic is loosing ice. And the Antarctic is gaining ice. This is exactly what you would expect to see when there is a flat rate of change.

Automation can offset low employment costs and environmental standards are really just efficiency. It doesn't matter why you are finding it difficult to make quality products inexpensively, you just are. The whole warp and weft of business is dealing with changing costs and circumstances and meeting the competition, not petitioning the government to help you out by charging me taxes for your benefit

American products used to lead the world. we didn't need tariffs to force our own people to buy our products, people overseas came HERE to buy our products.

You conservatives are big on "Toughlove" , not enabling people to do self-destructive things, yet you want to charge us all to enable our own industry to make expensive/shoddy goods, that doesn't help them, or us, or our nation

I don't actually know of any shoddy goods made in the US, maybe there are some but I can't think of any. I associate shoddy with China, Bangladesh, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia...sweatshop and slave labor -type places.

Sigh..I thought that you would be at least smart enough to rationalize it. I guess you really don't know anything about economics

Lets use China as an example.

China was charging a tax of 25% for every car sent into their country. Practices like this create massive trade deficits, which acts as a leakage on our economy. Due to our trade deficits, we have a leakage of ~600 billion per year. Its going down the drain.

Do I need to explain then how such massive leakage overtime is bad for our nation security?

Do I really need to explain how its bad for our national security when we maintain a trade deficit with China that is more than half the value if our total trade with them?

Do I need to explain how maintaining such trade deficits overtime will make us poorer and our rivals richer? Do I need to explain how that is bad for our nation security?

Retaliatory tariffs are ment to help to decrease our overall trade deficit.

I hope that my redundancy drove the point across

Learn about the subject you are talking about before you form opinions about them and ask stupid questions.

Americans do not make shoddy goods

But if that is your complaint what have the white collar schmucks done for America lately ?

The education system is even worse than the government in washingtton

You built a welfare ststem that encourages and rewards people for being lazy

I’ll take a good plumber or assembly line worker any day over the so-called elites

Take them where, to the cleaners, like the taxes you're planning to put on everything will do?

Some American products are either relatively expensive for the same quality and/or relatively shoddy or Americans wouldn't need to be coerced into buying them. The ONLY way to meet competition is to MEET it, to sell a better product for the same or less money, that is Adam Smith's "invisible hand", the feature that makes Capitalism better than any other socioeconomic system yet tried. And you want to undermine it.

You want to build a system that encourages Americans to make crappy things. Your welfare is giving outlandish salaries to CEO's instead of building new and better assembly lines while going on about how "assembly line workers" (who are usually 12 feet tall, made of metal and bolted to the factory floor nowadays) are so much better than some shadowy bunch of "elites" that nobody can really identify. (yet another rightist conspiracy, you now have your nonexistent "elites" a "deep demographic" no less, to blame everything on)

As if the chinese junk is any better than you accuse America of building?

Thanks to out of control unions American automobiles were pretty crappy in the ‘80s and until recently

But that hardly represents all American workers
