Veterans and active service personal in the military commit suicide at a higher rate than the civilian population.

There is way more to being a fireman than just being able to carry a pump. Effective firefighting is a TEAM effort. No one person can save an entire ship when it comes to a fire on board.

But that fact ruins your little rant, doesn't it?

I show little understanding or empathy?

    *shakes head*

Just because you do not like what I say, that does not mean you can make any such claim.

And as usual, I hold in contempt those who simply try to hold up the military as some kind of paragon purely for emotional points in a political debate.

    List them.

Are trying to say there is more to being a rifleman than just being able to shoot a rifle.
But if you can't shoot the rifle how can you be a rifleman ?

Are you saying just because you can't carry a pump you can't use a fire extinguisher or lead a team or manage communications, or coordinate resources or do safety inspections or organize a fire drill or handle evacuations, etc, etc, etc?

My MOS was 0849. I was a naval gunfire spotter.

But I carried a M-16 and taught how to master the .45 pistol, was trained to man a M-60 machine gun. M-2 heavy machine gun, M-79 grande launcher, 3.5" rocket launcher, how to handle a 12 ga. pump action shot gun, fire the LAWW, how to drop mortar rounds down a 81 mm mortar tube, fire a 106 mm recoilless rifle, search for land minds using a bayonet, how to blow things up with TNT and plastic explosives.

If I couldn't do all of the above no Marine grunt would feel comfortable having me around them in the bush.

    Utterly irrelevant!

    We are talking about FIREFIGHTERS!

Nothing you posted refuted anything that I said about firefighters.

In the U.S. Navy every sailor is a fireman first who has to be capable of performing every battle damage control procedure.

    Every Sailor Is a Firefighter
There’s a saying in the US Navy that every sailor is a firefighter. This is because when a ship is threatened by fire, there are few worse places to be than trapped on a ship, miles from land, with no place to go. When this happens, regardless of your title, everyone on the ship becomes one thing and one thing only…a firefighter. -> https://medium.com/@jeremyjarrell/every-sailor-is-a-firefighter-101dff61d01b

    Every Sailor a Firefighter

Thousands of miles out to sea, sailors carry out our warfighting mission. While there are many career fields in the Navy, one baseline skill for each is a requirement...firefighting. It's training sailors initially learn in boot camp, but constantly receive particularly in shipboard environments through drills and exercises. This knowledge allows our sailors to handle the potentially catastrophic danger of a fire at sea while continuing to focus on the mission.

October is the Navy's warfighting month focusing on Navy warfighters, a fast and flexible force deployed worldwide to preserve peace, protect commerce, and deter aggression on, above, and below the sea..-> http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/2012/10/every-sailor-a-firefighter.html

    Every Sailor is a Firefighter

The other day I was talking to a professional firefighter and mentioned that I, unlike most civilians, had been exposed to firefighting training as a part of going to sea. I used the old Navy saying, "Every sailor is a firefighter."

We took fire safety and fire fighting preparedness very seriously on the ammunition ship I served in, but really not any more than on a destroyer or cruiser.

But it got me to thinking that most Americans don't always appreciate that sailors have to save their own ships if they can or deal with the sea. Lose your ship and it's a long wet walk home.

ake these true tales: A ship gets surprised by a terrorist bomb while in port. The crew, though suffering 17 dead, fights back by putting out fires, stopping the spread of flooding and saving their ship.

Another ship is hit by a surprise missile attack while on patrol. The crew fights back, saving their ship: -> http://www.eaglespeak.us/2009/07/sunday-ship-history-every-sailor-is.html

None of the above proves your bogus allegation that everyone must be able to carry that pump.

No Margot, I'm not like the lefties who throw unsupported, distorted, biased, crap out there. I've seen enough unbiased links to know that it's true.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5178031/

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jul/12/chelsea-manning-and-transgender-suicide-rates/

    You can Google more yourself.

In addition, those who opt for surgery have any even higher suicide rate.
    http://www.newsweek.com/transgender-women-transgender-men-sex-change-sex-reassignment-surgery-676777

Then there are the trans who go into the military recently and are getting these surgeries which means they can't perform the job they enlisted to do, fight for their country. The surgery itself puts them behind a desk for several years and then hormone therapy can keep them out of combat for years later. I do not know how it might affect those outside of combat positions.

Every sailor in the U.S. Navy is trained and then tested to see if they can carry the P-250 pump up and down ladders and tested to see if the can start the pump and I own a P-250 pump and they are a *********ker to start.

    Yes, there are.

But everybody must be combat ready, and able to deploy at any time. And everybody is trained to fight. And depending on the unit, everybody may have to do the exact same jobs as a grunt.

When my Infantry unit went to the field, everybody went. And the cooks and admin guys marched out with their backpacks and weapons, and dug foxholes just as we did. Even the Battalion Chaplin and supply guys were there with us, marching 10 miles to a training site.

Everybody has at least 2 jobs, if not more in the military. And it does not matter what your primary job is. If you are a clerk in the rear, odds are you are pulling perimeter security in the field.

And units train and fight as units. The era where a unit remains deployed for years and simply rotates individuals in and out for their 1 year overseas time is long over with. That concept ended in Vietnam when it was realized how much that hurt combat effectiveness.

They have a increase Suicide rate not because of their life but because you bigots, homophobic and haters are trying to stomp on them every chance you get. You are all comedians with just bad senses of humor.

Your uncorroborated opinion is NOT factual substantiation of your allegation.

There has to be some younger former squids on the PF who served aboard a U.S. Navy love boat who can confirm if he has ever wittiness a female sailor carrying a P-250 pump up of down a ladder.

No, you'll have to explain how people who are constantly victimised for being themselves and not bothering anybody are now supposed to be the ones doing the hating they are victims of. This is yet more of the fundamentalist turnabout bull **** where people complain that their religious freedom to persecute others is being curtailed.
