It's good to see that he's working on the important issues.

    I was wrong, so wrong.
Abbott is winding the clock back, but not 20 or 50 years, more like 200 years.
We are doomed, what a terrible mistake he is for Australia.
    regards

Knights will be expected to raise their own levies during times of war.

They will give little Johny one for sure.

Queen: "You don't have to kneel yet"
Johnny: "I am not kneeling your majesty"

I really think it's time we grew up, and grew some balls.

Let's man up and kick this clown back to the circus instead of listening to his drivel. He's a sniveling, lying, untrustworthy idiot.

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes well if Bozzo Abbott isn't stopped, that could be exactly where we are heading.

    - - - Updated - - -

I think he will be more than a mistake.

So you have some sort of problem with giving recognition to a person who has contributed some especially laudable service to the country and or community?

Well for 45 years at least. The Order Of Australia was only created in 1975 by Malcolm Fraser

“My intention is that this new award will go to those who have accepted public office rather than sought it; and who can never, by virtue of the office they have held, entirely return to private life,’’ the Prime Minister said.

Looks like that puts Johnny out of the running. You should do a little research before you start spitting your hatred.

“This special recognition may be extended to Australians of `extraordinary and pre-eminent achievement and merit’ in their service to Australia or to humanity at large."

    Got a problem with that?

You mean like the way Hawke spitefully got rid of the honours when he took office?

None, no problem then, Johnny definitely wouldn't get one of those. :)

This is an out-dated antiquated system that should have stayed burried with the dinosuars. Why the hell Abbott has brought this back is anyone's guess. Knights & Dames have no place or relevence in the 21st centuary, and its only a status symbol to prove that some people are better than others, which should not be allowed to happen in a modern society. I thought politicians were preaching to us that we are all equal; hence the discrimination acts? :roflol: Seems like we are NOT equal afterall. :roflol:

It was a smart move, given the out going GG is Bill Shorten's mother in law he couldn't hit at it too hard. The look on the Green's was priceless.

I'm surprised we didn't hear more about that relationship of Bill to the GG, oh that's right the Lib's arent the one who run mucky dirty propoganda campaigns... thats the ALP.

Since the title is not hereditary, what's the problem?
Speaking of hereditary, it is part of Australia's heritage and history. The fact that nasty lefties want to destroy it is genocide and typical. You can't dictate behaviour to people because it doesn't fit a set ideology and get away with it.

Don't know about anyone else, but I have no idea who is a "Companion of the order of Australia", where as I know a lot of our knights and dames. I think it's fine, it's just like an honourary doctorate, or a life time achievement award, or whatever, but for being an outstanding citizen. 4 per year seems like a crazy small limit though. Especially when there's a backlog of people that should probably get it who've been kicked down a notch.

For someone who drives a VW Campervan (panzer - German, Kampf - Camp, wagen - car) you are not making yourself clear. What do you think my words mean?

I believe that many consider this to be a move backwards for the republic debate. The problem is that while they dilly over this type of thing and changing the flag or any other thing they believe will distance Australia from the Queen they miss the point that nothing will come unless they focus on making a decent, less perceptible corrupt system of republic that most Australians can agree with it is all pointless. The last effort that failed did not fail because most Australians did not want a republic, it failed because there was no clear direction for a republic. It was all like vote to become a republic and we will work things out as we go along. Everybody could see how easy it would be to corrupt the system and did not want anything to do with such a unorganized bunch.

BUT HEY, while they spend all their focus on changing flags and removing any honors that appear to be associated with the Queen, nothing will get done. So it is really a bit of a non-event.

We are always ridiculed for not having a culture, or our own at least. Seems as though some also want us to remain to be seen as hanging on to big mummers apron strings. Most of us commenting here I dare say have european roots but surely we deserve to be standing on our own two feet now. We are fully fledged Aussies, a separate independent state.......so I thought? It makes one feel hopeless and patronised, therefore certainly doesn't make one feel proud and free!

Are you serious? Politicans make anti-discrimination Acts and legislation so everyone can be equal, but they now introduce Knighthoods and Dames that will automatically elevate certain people over other people just by a "title" added to their name, and you see NO contradiction with this?

If Mary A finds a cure for cancer, and is recognised world wide for this achievement, and history rememers Mary A for this achievement. How will adding a Dame to her name make her achievement anymore rememerable or noteworthy?

I see nothing wrong with it. These are special people because of service to country or humanity and they are rewarded with honor and status for their achievement. Not necessarily be rewarded with money.
People should should not discriminate on the basis of race or sex. That's divisive and bad.
People should discriminate on the basis of service to the community and to their country. That's constructive and good.

I actually liked Tim Wilson's suggestion on Qanda tonight of, if we're going to have an honours system at all, trying to find (with permission) some Aboriginal equivalents.
