So, the big questions remain: Why wasn't this the rallying cry of the Right back then? Where were those hair-on-fire demands that we wall it off?

Do you think a wall is going to do anything about the cartels?

Yes. Pound for pound, drugs have far higher profits than any other illicit product and are easier to smuggle.

That’s mostly because the Republicans, the party of rich old white men, couldn’t get young Hispanics to vote for them.

How much do they sell 10 year old girls for into sex slavery, and how long will that 10 year old be sending her sex slave profits back to them?

How much money do cartels get in remittances from the US each year?

Yes, Republicans are rich old white men. Certainly not Democrats.

(google's richest people in the US)

Not nearly as much as they get from the sale of illicit drugs.

You could always experiment with the effectiveness of walls by removing one side of your house.

    Great.

Give us some supporting evidence that cartels make more money on drugs than they do in human trafficking, sex trafficking, and remittances from the people they sneak into the US.

Keep in mind that remittances, just to Mexico, were 18.5 billion last year.

But if the richest people in the US are Democrats...how does that support your argument?

Or maybe we could encase ourselves in a concrete bubble.

Seriously . . . If you think a border barrier is going to stop the drugs, you might want to consider Prohibition as a model. It did nothing to stop the flow of alcohol from outside the country.

I know there are many differences between prohibition and drugs, but our national dependency on drugs is a problem and a wall is merely going to change the route that some of those drugs come in.

    Exactly.

That's what walls are designed to do. Force them through secure checkpoints.

Will it end illegal immigration and drug smuggling? No, but it'll make them easier to catch and reduce it.

Most of the drugs are already coming through legal points of entry. And while we're thinking of drugs stuffed into the tires of a car or into a backpack, we tend to ignore shipping containers on cargo ships or flown in on commercial freight. And then there's mail and UPS. So many ways to get around it that poking a finger in one hole only means a temporary slow down. We need to do something about the demand. What's the plan?

We don't know how many drugs are coming through areas where we don't have people do catch them, now do we?

Tell me, do you get more guests at home or do I? You wouldn't know because you aren't here to see how many I have.

"Most of the drugs are already coming through legal points of entry". False. We do not know that.

"Most of the drugs we catch are coming through legal points of entry". True. We clearly catch more drugs where we have total control, vs where we do not have total control.

Then you proceed to another logical fallacy in your argument.

You say that, to paraphrase, drugs come in by other routes. Well of course they do.

That is not an argument to not build a wall to reduce the amount of drugs entering the country.

That's like saying, "Well, it's winter, and some cold air gets through cracks in the house. Might as well knock this wall down, since cold air is going to get in anyway."

All of those remittances went to drug cartels?

Mexican Cartels alone (not counting any of the others) send more $64 billion worth of drugs per year into the United States.

ICE itself states that the GLOBAL profit value of human trafficking is only $9.5 billion. That's for all the human trafficking in the entire world.

Do they only advocate policies attractive to rich old white men as the Republicans do?

Most of it probably does, since no one gets into the US illegally without the permission of the drug cartels.

Drugs are a one use consumable that you have to keep smuggling in.

Humans they smuggle across to send money to them through bribery, extortion, and sex trafficking will be doing so for decades.

Sadly, along with undocumented folks comes undocumented illness and infections, but hopefully, no pandemic.
