............For Fact Checking His False Claim About Mail-In Voting

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...checking-his-false-claim-about-mail-in-voting

"President Donald Trump flew into a rage on Tuesday night after Twitter used its new fact checking feature to correct his false claim that voting by mail leads to election fraud.

“.@Twitter is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election,” he tweeted. “They are saying my statement on Mail-In Ballots, which will lead to massive corruption and fraud, is incorrect, based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post.”

Trump accused the social media platform of “completely stifling FREE SPEECH.”

“And I, as President, will not allow it to happen!” he wrote.

Despite his complaints, Trump’s statement about mail-in voting systems was indeed incorrect. There is no evidence that mail-in voting causes voter fraud.
    ................................................................................................................
President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened that Republicans will try to close down social media platforms a day after Twitter, for the first time, added a fact check to two of his tweets, ones concerning his unsubstantiated claims about widespread mail-in voting fraud.

Trump, in a tweet not specifically naming any platforms, said that "Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservative voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen."

    ................................................................................................
The Liar-in-Chief is quite upset. He uses Twitter to circumvent normal ways in which to get his "message" across because he had previously been able to lie at will without concern over being called out for it. That appears to be changing.

The more he rages on about this in an angry, unhinged way the more it becomes obvious what's happening. If someone can't get Baby Donald to stop exposing his own dishonesty in this way it's going to blow up in his face worse than it already has.

As always, I look forward to Trump fan's learned, factual, respectful replies to this thread. I'm especially interested in how Facebook users are reacting to the threat of shutting down social media platforms because Don accurately stands accused of lying by Twitter.

So fact checking is 'totally silencing' now? In what world is that a correct equation? Shame on Twitter for holding POTUS - and all other users - accountable for the content they put out in the Twittersphere? Isn't there no place left in this world where a man can say what he wants without people checking the truthfulness of his statements? I think this will become a 'freedom of speech' issue soon directly!

    You’re describing ‘freedom of speech’.

    There is no issue.

I view his opinion as stated on Twitter to be prescient. I agree with him. How can some one fact check an opinion? This whole thing is stupid.

if Trump is not happy with Twitters free service he can go somewhere else, he can not use the power of the government to silence them

I think that the media that got us into the present post-truth era, has a responsibility to bring us back into those times in which facts mattered. This is a good first step by tweeter. But they will have to do much more. The conspiracy theories and dangerous falsehoods he has made his political career on are no longer "cute". They are outright dangerous. From the Joe Scarborough conspiracy theory, to his pushing witch-doctor remedies for Coronavirus have cost lives.

it's not the media's fault they have to report Trump's false statements, he is the President, they always report what the President says and does

What the person who holds the office of President of the United State says is policy. Not opinion. Tweeter refuses to become the vehicle through which the President violates his oath of office.

Yes. But I think it's their responsibility to give equal airtime to the facts. The airwaves, belong to the people. They should report it. But at the same time also report the facts. I think tweeter is doing the right thing. By not censoring, but simply making the facts available. But they need to expand it.

Although his response to Twitter was inapppropriate, what disturbed me most is the phrase “flew into a rage”. An emotional outburst of this degree in a leader is always of great concern as it indicates the person is not in control of themselves let alone those around them. To “fly into a rage” over something as trivial as this is further indication, if ANY were ever needed that Trump is the antithesis of a good leader

Twitter simply fact checked what he had written, it did not delete it, it did not disbar him from the site and it did not shoot his dog

So now is Twitter a social forum or a publisher? They may have opened Pandora's box on themselves. The libs at Twitter just could not control themselves.

When was the last time we saw a "fact" reported by the MSM? Decades ago perhaps.

As has his continued dismissal of the danger to Americans

We see that dismissal played out here every day by his supporters Who are acting as if the danger is already over or there never was a problem to begin with

Why should their freedoms also be repressed?

They are free to fact-check everyone including Pelosi and Biden and even Obama and Hillary

What is your definition of a “fact

    Windmills cause Cancer?

    Coronavirus is spread by 5G?

    QANON is real?

    Vaccines cause Autism?

The Clintons are secretly killing people?

Barrack Obama was born in Kenya?

One more time. He is making opinions about the election system. He hasn't dealt with facts in any of this nonsense. Neither has Twitter. There are no facts. He believes mailing millions of ballots will result in an increase in election fraud. I believe the same thing. You and Twitter don't. No facts involved. There is nothing to check. They are OPINIONS.

Where did you get that idea? Presidents can't express opinions? You know better than that.

Can twitter provide some evidence that mailing millions of ballots to people and former people will not increase election fraud? You know better than that as well. It is all nothing but opinion. Now I am ready to hear how think this tweet had anything at all to do with his oath of office. You people are getting desperate.

Ah.....no, no that's wrong. In the wake on Russia's influence campaign using social media Congress rightly demanded that social media platforms try to police the posted content for truthfulness. Trump is free to say he doesn't like to vote by mail (he has voted by mail) or he wishes people didn't want to out of fear of COVID, but this (see below) isn't opinion, it's a lie.

Regrettably, our prez has become completely unhinged.

A real President's "opinion", when expressed in public, is policy. The idiot in chief doesn't understand the job of President.

Interesting. When it was Trump who was being accused, it was the person who claimed there was a crime that needed to provide the evidence. Suddenly now, you demand evidence that voters have not committed a crime. Even worse! They have to prove that they won't commit a crime in the future.

The extent to which people can go to find excuses for an idol is astounding.

So... Let me see if I understand your question. You don't know what "to faithfully execute the office" means? Or did you just now know it was in the oath of office. If you did know, what did you think that meant?

Or you don't. I believe the president is one who defines his job. It is guided only by the constitution and the law.
Now you finally understand that it was opinion. There is no evidence either way.
    Idol. That is humerous.
I said what I meant and meant what I said.
