I was born in the South who worked in Detroit doing factory work, ex military ,retired law enforcement, Love skeet and hunting in my mid sixties.

Not an evangelical Christian or Racist however I thought President Obama did an excellent job as most political historians do.

By the way quite a few of my marine buds think President Obama was a good President and are very disappointed in Trump !

So don't generalize Trumps base. We in the rural South are proud Americans !!!

It'll be amusing to watch how many Republican candidates will be running in November on "something terrific!" Trump®Care that covers "everybody!" at "less cost!"

Somehow, the Trump toady pifflewits have succeeded in making "ObamaCare" popular!

Much of the "progressive left" praised Hitler until he broke his alliance with the USSR.

"...he described the speech as a "genuinely statesmanlike address.' Then he continued in phrases as remarkable in retrospect as they must have seemed at the time: 'We have heard once more through the smoke and the din, the hysteria and the animal passions of a great revolution. the authentic voice of a genuinely civilized people.' ...he maintained that 'to deny today that Germany can speak as a civilized power because uncivilized things are being done in Germany is in itself a deep form of intolerance.' would it be fair he argued to judge the French by the Terror, Protestantism by the KKK, the Catholic church by the Inquisition,? Or for that matter, 'the Jews by their parvenus?'" Ronald Steele, "Walter Lippmann and The American Century", p.331

Lippmann's praise of Hitler and his ridicule of his own people in the hour of their greatest persecution was overlooked by his contemporaries at the time and by today's "left". Lippmann's position was shared by many on the left who have tried to cover up their early support for Hitler and Mussolini.

The past people want to forget keeps coming back to bite them. But I think remembering a little unpleasant history is less painful than marching down the same path through ignorance.

Hitler killed and jailed the progressive left, Ddydd. Your one example is a hasty generalization. Lippman's error was thinking that the terror was an isolated incidence. Steele knows better, that the terror was systemic.

There are countless examples of progressives praising Hitler and Mussolini. Alas.

Nope. But plenty of conservatives, like Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh, loved them.

Ford was a socialist. No contradiction there. Allen L. Benson a prominent socialist leader of the era applauded Ford's plan for radical distribution of profits and other progressive positions. Check out Crusaders for American Liberalism, Louis Filler. p. 341.

Ford was a capitalist, a conservative, and a lover of Hitler: no contradiction there.

Higher wages and benefits, buddy, was not a "radical distribution of profits."

You make me laugh: you are simply precious, Ddyad.

    Totally.

    And, just between us:

It is the continuous litany of Comical BS (spewing from the RW Echo Chamber) that is always good for a chuckle.

    Keeps me coming back.

Everybody needs a good laugh. And the RW seldom disappoints.

Oh, and on topic, the RW can't win an election without Russian interference.

You're just sore about the 2016 election and the embarrassment you suffered from it.

Read more of the history of the early progressive era and you will discover that Ford was praised and denounced as a "socialist".
The socialist artist and philosopher, Diego Garcia, an admirer of Ford who describes the not uncommon early Soviet practice of displaying pictures of Stalin, Marx, Lenin, and Ford together:

"Karl Marx produced the indispensable theory, Lenin applied the theory with his sense of large scale social organization. And Henry Ford made the work of the socialist state possible. None of their contributions would have meant anything; however, without the political genius of Stalin." Diego Garcia from "Henry Ford, The Wayward Capitalist", Gelderman, p315.

"The enlightened new labor rules at Ford, the five dollar minimum, and the struggle of the sociological department to raise living standards should have inspired imitation, but in fact what they inspired was an epithet for Henry Ford- the 'Mad Socialist' of Highland Park." Same p58.

Ford was of course far from repelled by Hitler, but then Stalin actually tried to join the axis so I don't think we can call Ford a socialist heretic.

Here is another "clue": Cole Porters 1935 version of "You're The Top" included the line: "You're the top! You're the great Houdini! You're the top! You're Mussolini!". "Back From The Dead Benito Mussolini", New York Time Magazine, June 24, 1994, p17.

Ddyad can only post that those who believed in "labor rules" for the working person "at Ford, the five dollar minimum," somehow is socialist, when in fact it created a capitalist consumer class that had the money to buy the products they made.

Ddyad simply does not economics and its terms.

I merely pointed out that Ford was denounced as a radical socialist. He was not a "conservative".

Unless you define Lenin and Stalin as "conservatives".

"At their tenth Party Congress, ...they adopted the New Economic Policy (NEP), which legalized trade, restored a money economy,...Private entrepreneurs, the 'Nepmen acquired a free hand in small-scale industry and service trades. A period of relative stability and prosperity ensued." Robert C. Tucker, "Stalin in Power", P. 2.

The allegiance of the fanatical right - neo-nazis, white supremacists, etc. - to their proclaimed "Glorious Leader!" should be of concern to every patriotic American.
