Great post and I'd add that a refund is what was essentially an interest free loan to the govt.

Joe Biden said it was patriotic to pay more in taxes.

    So be patriotic.

Did you even read the article you cited? It supports what we have all been telling you about tax refunds vs taxes paid. "The specific issue here is tax refunds rather than total taxes paid. Whether you get a refund or owe extra to the IRS at filing time is a function not just of your total taxes owed, but also of how much tax is withheld from your paycheck by your employer on paydays. ..... This was all explained in a Government Accountability Office report last summer, but it turns out that many people are not regular readers of GAO reports and did not take the GAO’s official advice to check their withholding status. The result? Surprise tax bills!"

You posted this article excerpt ---- now re-read it and let it sink in. "Something like 90 percent" of "the middle quintile of earners" saw a "tax cut under the TCJA". Even your article admits a tax increase is something only "a small percentage of people at all income levels will have seen".

In summary, most middle income Americans got a tax cut, period.

Schools not only might need to put more emphasis on teaching kids math and reading comprehension, but maybe a class is basic Taxes 101 wouldn't be a bad idea either.

You are the one who claimed in another thread that if you cut the tax rate it is IMPOSSIBLE to collect more revenue, you said it was mathematically impossible. Now you are claiming it is a fact that cutting your tax rate resulted in you paying more tax revenue.
    So which is the truth?

ASSUMING that is true (cough, cough, yeah right) then at least be happy for the other 95% who are paying less taxes. :D

why would I be happy? We ran a trillion dollar deficit thanks to this moronic "tax cut" and runaway republican spending. That adds to the debt and will need paid back in the future.

percentage is the same for all in each class...
merely looking at line 19 or 22 does not prove anything:
    upload_2019-2-11_11-16-0.png

was line 16 the same or different from last year:

was line 18 the same or diff:
    upload_2019-2-11_11-20-48.png

    how about line 7:

You care immensely what I believe and follow me around on the board commenting on what I believe.

YOU said the "tax cut" caused your tax liability to increase, what in the "tax cut" caused your tax liability to increase. If you didn't ask you preparer why then how do you know it was the "tax cut"?

It certainly would. Luckily a family of 4 in North Carolina, earning $125,000 a year did get this huge tax reduction of $5,400 (35% of their fed tax bill) according to this (and all other) tax calculator. It's sad that it is not your family of course. You don't think these tax calculators are all lying for Trump, do you? ;) :D

it seems that English is your second language. You apparently have trouble reading words that are written in English, in black and white.

It IS the case for a NC family of 4 making $125,000 a year, they got a whopping 35% $5,400 tax cut. Tax calculators don't lie.

PS it will be your case too when you get a job and start a family. Rejoice.

The Vox.com story said people might have a tax bill....because they ignored the GAO official statement to review their withholdings...that is not the same as having more tax liability
