Because the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES mandates that we count ALL PEOPLE WITHOUT CAVEOUT who reside in America for the purpose of congressional seats. ANYTHING THAT STOPS THAT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

If you favor the question and do not understand the affect would be unconstitutional, you do not understand the constitution.

What's wrong with a citizenship question? Tell me.

Don't you want to know how many non citizens there are in this country? How about blacks, do you want to not count them. Or maybe asking the Male/Female question should be eliminated.

Without the citizenship question I can say there are 40 million no citizens in this country and you couldn't prove me wrong.

Looks like the Census Bureau was trying to get them to do it this way from the beginning. Glad we were able to avoid another Constitutional crisis.

Be honest, if Trump was the one who took the citizenship question off the census the left would be screaming that non citizens aren't being fairly represented. You guys just love to do the opposite of anything Trump wants.

 

I dunno why it was removed, nor do I understand why having it on is so triggering.

 

The constitution also says this:

14th Amendment Section 2.
Representatives shall be apportioned among the several states according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each state, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the executive and judicial officers of a state, or the members of the legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such state, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such state.

That might be true if there were actual benefits to being a non-citizen (over a citizen), but there aren't...

But your second point is not without merit. I've found it's a lot easier to simply assume if Trump wants something, it's wrong and/or bad, then take the VERY rare lump when I'm wrong...

 

And if they get an accurate census the Democrats are sure to lose seats, so all is good.

 

The Rose Garden announcement that the government will keep doing what's its been doing only faster, quicker, and more better. Barr (Kamala's favorite punching bag) basically spilled the beans that the Trump government was looking to use the data in redistricting. God that Rose Garden spectacle was a hoot.

 

I like his plan. The census data is almost always a year or more out of date by the time it's released anyway. Consolidating data we already have from other agencies is smart thinking.

Justice DID succeed.

The SCOTUS ruled that it wasn’t the question that was illegal, but the reason they wanted it on the census. They wanted it on there because they knew they could draw political advantage in elections, thru changes in representation. The question didn’t even need to be answered, and in fact was better for the right if they weren’t, for the right to gain. Thats just a fact. So much so a fact that that’s why the SCOTUS said it was illegal.

“Frivolous challenges”. WTF does that even mean. The first challenge to the question was upheld by the Supreme Court.

But I’m sure that you would be OK with the question being asked if the dems could gain advantage in representation thru it right ?
