It was no surprise when President Trump captured enough delegates this week to become the presumptive Republican presidential nominee – but what has been unusual is the sheer number of votes he’s racked up in a virtually non-competitive primary.

Trump has won about twice as many votes in most state primaries as predecessors Barack Obama did in 2012 and George W. Bush did in 2004, during their respective party primaries.

The Trump campaign says he’s even set an overall primary record, earning “at least four million votes more than the previous record for total votes cast for an incumbent president in those same states, held by former President Bill Clinton in his 1996 re-election campaign.”

It’s too early to know what this portends for November, particularly in a time of a national crisis with the coronavirus pandemic. As Trump and Congress scramble to respond with a massive stimulus package, the possibility of a looming recession and the ongoing Wall Street chaos could cloud the president’s core campaign message about a hitherto booming economy.

OK, Trump winning Republican primaries was no surprise; what is surprising to me are the record numbers of votes, given the fact that no Republicans had to vote at all. I did not vote; what for? And Trump even set an overall primaries votes record, till now held by dick Clinton!

There are still many unknowns between now and November to be sure, but given the confidence with which Trump has marshaled his administration to handle the Chinese virus pandemic and the faltering economy, is there a chance he won't be re-elected?

What will ole Joe Bite_me run on? :frustrated:

Yesterday Joe Biden's wife had to lead him off stage by the hand, and it was obvious that for a little while there he didn't know who he was and nor what he was doing. Even the corrupt to the core leadership of the DNC should be ashamed of themselves for knowingly putting a senile man in that position. Why Joe's wife is going along with this example of elder abuse is anyone's guess.

At this point, Biden's nomination is assured, unless he loses it completely for whatever reason. Hope ole Joe stays healthy and I don't mind him sitting in a chair during Presidential debates, while Trump runs circles around him

I agree. As for Trump, today it was announced that the majority of peopled polled think that he's doing a great job dealing with this pandemic. So we shall see.

Not an issue of from, an issue of for. He clinched the nomination for his supporters, just as most incumbents do. Odd these questions were non-existent in 2012...

    A most interesting phenomenon.

Especially, as you pointed out, for a non-competitive primary.

YES! A very good chance that Trump WILL LOSE.

    1) I'm NOT Trump
    2) I'm NOT Trump
    3) Etc...Rinse...Repeat...

    ^That would my guess.

And, that WILL be enough Defeat Trump.

    Just a Hunch.:flagus:

In 2016, all Hilla had was that PLUS "I Haz Vagina."

I've said this before - I asked several times back and right here on this board, why should I vote FOR Hillary. I never got a response outside of what I said. I didn't like Trump and he was far, far, FAR from my choice for a nominee, nevertheless I could come up with reasons to vote for him. Hilla never had positive reasons to vote for her. At least, none of her supporters ever said any.

Part - not the complete reason, but a PART of the reason that Obama won both times was that people actually had a reason to vote for him as well as reasons to vote against McCain. Romney - eh, not so much there. People had reasons to vote for W in 2000 as well as reasons to vote against Gore. I think people voted more against Kerry than for W in 2004. But I digress.

Dutch actually asks a reasonable question. Why would anyone vote FOR Biden? Not why would anyone vote AGAINST Trump - I already know why. But why vote FOR Biden? What does he stand for?

Open question to the forum: Does anybody on the board know?

This is just so much BS.

She was a former Senator and the most travelled SOS in history.

Her resume for the job of POTUS was written in stone.

That said, I didn't vote for her. I didn't like her then, and I don't like her now.

But let's not pretend she didn't have anything going for her besides the fact she was female.

She probably would have been a fine POTUS but for the thirty years of baggage that came with her that the deranged Right Wing would have never relented on.

    Pizzagate? Really?

I could only imagine what they would have invented had she actually won.

I don't know anyone voting "for" Biden.

He is, by far, the worst candidate fielded by the DNC in a generation.

    Worse even than HRC.

That said, I skipped voting for HRC the last cycle, and now we have Trump.

I will hold my nose and vote for this idiot only because he is just a lesser idiot than what passes for a POTUS now.

There were two other names on the ballot here but I can't remember who. Trump got 99% plus of all votes.

Is it? Like I said - I kept asking. I never got an answer outside of "Not Trump" and "Haz Vagina".

Indeed. And that is the point - if Trump is running unopposed (which he is) why is that a record number of Americans cast ballots in Republican primaries? I see no reason to.

A landslide Trump's victory is coming, the likes of which we haven't seen before is my guess.
