President Donald Trump on Monday gave himself an "A+" grade on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying he and his administration had done a "phenomenal job" even as the death toll neared 200,000 Americans.

At the same time, he gave himself a "D" on what he called "public relations."

“We’ve done a phenomenal job. Not just a good job. A phenomenal job. Other than public relations, but that's because I have fake news, you know, I can’t -- you can’t convince them of anything, they’re a fake. But we have done – on public relations, I give myself a D," he said in a phone interview on "Fox and Friends."

"On the job itself, we take an A+, with the ventilators and now with the vaccines that are years ahead of schedule," he added.

“We're rounding the corner -- with or without a vaccine -- they a hate it when I say that, but that's the way it is,” Trump said, as experts warn the outbreak could get worse over the winter. “We're rounding the corner on the pandemic,” he said.

Is there such a thing as a AAAAA+ Grade?

Main reason; What about the 50+ countries who have maintained their Covid19 Deaths per 1M pop below 150, such as Germany?

it's a difficult question to answer because I don't think Trump could have done it in a different way

I would have aligned myself moreso with the medical experts in a flexible way.

I don't think Americans are as tolerant of abstinence or lockdown as other European or Anglo countries however, so mask use would be more critical then limiting movement.

Trump used his loud mouth to criticize several Dem Governor’s Covid19 restrictions, and he kept his mouth shut when a number of Repub Governors were re-opening their economies significantly above CDC’s minimum positivity rate.

Response from Trump’s loyalists; Nothing he could have done....”Separation of Powers”

Bull ****! What does leading by example mean?

Yeah he's completely politicized it. But everyone knows that (except his supporters). If you have a third of the population basically disregarding social distancing etc. it just doesn't work.

All of Washington has politicized it. Bipartisan majorities have politicized it by way of CARES and statements. By wearing the silly face masks they have politicized it.

I can't disagree with your first statement. But Jesus man, compulsory masks work. it's not just about protection, it changes how people behave. We were heading off the deep end and have smashed it here in Victoria. Compulsory masks were a big part of this.

You offer a feel good analysis, but nothing more. You confuse correlation with causation, a fundamental error in analysis.

There is no scientific test showing that face masks stop the airborne spread of virus.

In fact, here in the US, starting in 1946, there have been scientific tests, laboratory tests, regarding the matter of the efficacy of face masks in preventing the airborne spread of flu virus. Through about 2014, those many tests have all reached the same conclusion--the efficacy of masks against airborne virus cannot be established. It's a coin toss, basically. There is no scientific evidence that masks stop the spread.

Repeated claims that they do work do not prove a thing. That is, repeating an inaccurate statement many times does not make it become a true statement.

On the anecdotal side, I know 2 people who wear masks all the time who became infected. That's not scientific either, but it is a true story.

So all those 200,000 deaths were solely from the Wuhan Flu? You really think if Sleepy Joe were in charge that number would be any different?

From my previous post: "If you have a third of the population [that would be Trump supporters] basically disregarding social distancing etc. it just doesn't work."

So, you tell me. Would science-based CDC advice have any impact on a "Trump supporter type's" behaviour? I am thinking some it would, so you'd have some improvement.

You claimed people who don't social distance are Trump supporters, I guess that isn't true.

    a. Not disbanded the Office that had to do with Pandemic awareness in 2017

    b. Listened to the numerous and loud warnings that a large pandemic like this one was coming. They started in 2015 and only got louder the more Trump ignored them.

    c. restocked our supplies of PPE

    d. Started a PRACTICAL travel ban similar to Argentina's in February

    e. Generally done everything that nations like S Korea were doing and have continued doing. S. Korea in particular is VERY comparable to the US in terms of quantity/density of population and overall culture. They now have 388 deaths

    f. Many other things, but e should cover it

All the 'science' saying not to do it has very little impact on drunk drivers, so we arrest drunk drivers and we throw them in prison where they can't hurt people anymore. We do the same with any other person who wants to kill people for no good reason. We should do that here.

    YES!

In reference to strict/prolonged lockdown orders, Trump threatened several Dem Governors, such as; withholding Federal funds, and encouraging protests, and back then, the hypocrites weren’t chanting “Separation of Powers”.

Thus, in reference to the states who have re-opened at a high positivity rate, where was Trump’s loud mouth/threats?

Biden would have at least pressured said states to re-open at a lower rate, OR ELSE.

If each US state was a country here is a list of the top 10 "countries", with a population over 1M, of deaths per million:

    1. New Jersey
    2. New York
    3. Massachusetts
    4. Connecticut
    5. Louisiana
    6. Rhode Island
    7. Mississippi
    8. Peru
    9. Belgium
    10. Arizona

Yet Trump has awarded himself an A+ grade when in control of the richest country in the world

It's basically what we do here in Aus. Fines, heavy fines and small prison sentences for severe breaches. I honestly think you'd have an armed insurrection in the US if you tried that, though.

With so many people flagrantly flouting guidelines in the US, health guidelines become a mockery - Don has given this group presidential licence to behave thus.

Thankfully I live in Western Australia, where we have instigated a very aggressive hard border but avoided lockdowns, because if masks became mandatory I would happily go to prison.

As it is currently optional I stocked up on PPE way back when they were telling us not to use it.

And I would happily send you there, until there was no further need for them. Solitary confinement too, there's no need to punish innocent convicts.
