General Mattis quit after Trump surrendered Syria to Russia and Iran over two months ago. Trump has not named a permanent replacement. He has a pencil pushing acting SecDef who is the quietest SecDef in American history. If he has made any statements, I am unaware of them. If he has made any statements, they could not have been very important. That is probably exactly what Trump wants. The last thing he wants is an experienced person to assume the role of SecDef. That person might inform Congress and Americans the truth much like Mattis and Dan Coats did.

Which explains why Trump is in no hurry to nominate a replacement for Mattis. In addition, qualified individuals are not interested. They saw what happened to Mattis and others.

Trump held a rare news conference today. In it, he lied. Shocking.

In one example of his fictional story telling, he repeated over and over again that the caliphate has been defeated. That part is true, but it is a distortion of the truth. It is true that ISIS has been driven out of all of the territory it once claimed, but notice Trump did not say ISIS was defeated. Nor did he mention that the Pentagon estimates there is a force of 20,000 to 30,000 ISIS guerilla fighters in Iraq and Syria.

That is a formidable force that Trump failed to mention. All he said was the caliphate (territory) was defeated. Nor did he mention that a guerilla force is far more dangerous when it has no territory to defend because they are not forced to stand and fight. A guerilla force prefers to hit and disappear.

Trump did not mention that, either. I switched to an older recording. There are times when Trump makes me want to puke. Today was such an occasion. We have a President who lies about a threat to our national security because he wants to make himself look good.

I have a prediction regarding Trump's summit with Kim Jong Un. You heard it here first.

The Mueller report is due out soon. Trump is getting enormous heat over his imaginary national emergency and the White House is concerned about the number of Republican defectors. On the very same day that he is meeting with Kim, the 27th, his former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is slated to appear before the House Oversight Committee spilling his guts out on Trump's travesties in a public hearing and Americans will be listening closely.

What does this mean as far as the summit is concerned? It means Trump is desperate to get Kim to agree to certain steps toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

I predict Trump will give concessions to Kim to get certain agreements which Kim will forget about by March 1st. Up to now the U.S. has insisted on certifiable full denuclearization before any sanctions are lifted. I predict Trump will concede tit for tat steps toward denuclearization. N.K. agrees to certain steps be taken. U.S. removes certain sanctions. N.K. agrees to more steps. U.S. removes more sanctions, and so on. I predict Trump will make some concessions to get Kim to agree to the tit for tat arrangement.

As Trump likes to say, "We'll see what happens."
