US President Donald Trump has called for himself and Democratic challenger Joe Biden to submit to drug tests before their first debate next month.

On Wednesday, the president - who is set to deliver his keynote address to the ongoing Republican party convention on Thursday - made a similar claim, arguing that Mr Biden's debating ability had improved markedly in the final debate.

The president offered no evidence his rival might be on drugs other than to say: "I'm pretty good at this stuff."

I suspect Trump IS pretty good at this stuff, based on what we saw from his kid(s) the other night.

Sure.. why not... However, the counter offer, if you are going to treat this like a prize fight, is an official weigh in on live TV as well.

That will shut this down immediately.

    As would this:

Zero chance this happens, but why would he even bring this up?? I've long stopped trying to figure out what the clapping monkey brain is doing, but I know it's not even 1 dimensional Solitaire.

I suspect this will be the drug test equivalent of the tax returns. This is a bluff call and suggests to me three possible scenarios

    1. Trump is fooling himself he can come off the adderall long enough for it to wash out of his system
    2. He thinks Biden IS already taking drugs and wants to trap Biden in some way ( remember Trump ALWAYS accuses others of what he himslef does)
3 He has a doctor who will lie on his drug test

if I were Biden I would agree BUT insist the tests be done by the same people who test Olympic athletes

That is the Game that Trump is playing

But let’s say Biden calls Donnie’s bluff and Donnie tries to weasel out?

Biden was the one that brought up drug testing and called a reporter a junkie.

    So do it

It is possibly just a ploy to put pressure on Biden to actually debate. I currently put the odds of him debating at 50/50.

Again here is this escapist meme

It is where there is a refusal to objectively view the facts and supply cogent discussion. Instead lump everything into a box labelled “Trump haters - to be ignored”

I could be wrong but it seems that Donnie did this drug test ploy against Hillary or at least attempted to.

Biden shouldn't agree, because it's a stupid demeaning request...

But if he does, there has to be a counter "test' of something Trump would probably fail, of which there is an endless list...

Yes I read something about that but do not recall if it was an opinion piece or a real news report.
The point is Biden did not make that suggestion to Trump.

What Senile Joe should take is a mental acuity test

He's as sharp as a head of cabbage. Clearly, he's unfit for office.

That junkie thing, is of course, ignoring the context of what Biden was indicating. He wasn't asking if the reporter was a junkie. He's asking the reporter how he would feel if he were asked to submit to a drug test prior to employment.

The overly literal average Trump supporter.... cannot connect the dots...

However, it was a little botched, and Joe really shouldn't rise to those bait questions. Here's how that exchange should have gone.

Q - Are you planning on taking a cognitive test?
    A - No

    Less is more.

I think what Trump is looking for are drugs to treat dementia or Alzheimers.

Trump's inference with a request for 'drug tests' is that Biden's handlers would have him all dosed-up with meds suitable for keeping ol' Joe from making a blathering-ass spectacle out of himself for all the world to see, if such drugs exist.

It's tricky. If they sedate him, he'll appear to be demented and 'vacant'. What kinds of drugs do they give people who have become 'forgetful' and senile...?

I found this (link address below):

    The Top Dementia Medications
    Donepezil

Sold under the brand name Aricept, this medication is a cholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor prescribed to help those diagnosed with mild, moderate, and severe Alzheimer’s disease. Donepezil is taken as a pill, or dissolving tablet for those unable to swallow, with side effects that commonly include gastrointestinal issues and sleep disruption. First approved by the FDA in 1996, this drug was classified to treat all stages of Alzheimer’s in 2006 after extensive clinical trials showing its potential to delay the onset of memory loss and cognitive abilities.

    Galantamine

This medication is sold under the name Razadyne, and it is a cholinesterase inhibitor that is effective and mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. According to the NIH, the main differences between this medication and donepezil are that galantamine users’ caregivers recorded less “burdens” during their patients’ time on the medication, in a 2003 clinical trial. Both medications have similar amounts of side effects, but galantamine users experience a skin rash sometimes, in addition to the standard intestinal issues caused by the tendency of cholinesterase inhibitors to increase stomach acid production.

    Rivastigmine

This medication, also known as Exelon, comes in a patch form and is used to improve memory and cognition in those diagnosed with mild to severe Alzheimer’s disease. As in other cholinesterase inhibitors, this medication is helpful in treating dementia-related memory loss, but not in the case of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

    Tacrine

The first drug approved by the FDA to treat Alzheimer’s, in 1994, the cholinesterase inhibitor tacrine was sold under the brand name Cognex. This medication was shown to improve cognitive functions such as memory in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease, but due to the extensive side effects that sometimes included severe liver damage and the availability of safer options Razadyne and Exelon, this drug was discontinued for use in 2013.

    Taking AChE Inhibitors Long Term

The use of AChE inhibitors is a great option to help slow the cognitive decline of dementia disorders. However, research shows that stopping this medication will cause the quick return of memory and cognitive loss, as well as an increase in dementia symptoms than was noticed before starting the medication. It is very important to keep in mind that once you start taking ACheE inhibitors, you must continue to take them for the rest of your life.

    NMDA Receptor Antagonists

Research into Alzheimer’s disease has shown that the neurotransmitter glutamate plays a significant role in the learning, and new medications are available to help regulate this newly discovered memory process. The medication memantine was created to help regulate glutamate in the brain and is shown to be effective for those with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
