This is a good thing, just about every community is seeing more heroin flooding in.

On the Law enforcement end, Sessions is getting tough on these heroin dealers, and on the treatment end Trump is trying to assist those who are the victims of these people.

President Trump taps Governor Charlie Baker for commission combating drug addiction and opioid crisis

Mass. Governor Charlie Baker and Harvard Medical researcher Bertha Madras, who focuses on the biology of addiction, were included on a list of five people who President Donald Trump plans to appoint as members of the new commission. Gov. Baker has made the opioid crisis a priority issue in Massachusetts, which has seen an uptick in drug-related deaths under his tenure. Madras formerly served the George W. Bush administration in a role at the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

President Donald Trump launches commission to combat opioid abuse, addiction
With an estimated 91 Americans dying each day from an opioid overdose, President Donald Trump this week announced the formation of a workgroup tasked with examining efforts to combat drug addiction

You do realize that appointing a commission is just a way of pretending to care without actually doing anything of significance.

I'm afraid that commission is going to find out that this is not without precedent, and that the opium wars were the result of a trade imbalance between China and Europe.

Focusing on the addicts is not going to stop this. They're going to find that the heroin is coming from Mexico, and that Mexico is perfectly fine with the flow of money from American addicts to Mexican banks. So are democrats who know that the heroin is coming from Mexico, which is probably one of the reasons they don't want a wall. We all know that drug addictions destroy families, and we all know how democrats have long worked to destroy the family.

This is about trying to address the treatment of the victims of drug dealers. I'm sure some people don't realize just how addictive these opioid drugs can be, and before you know it, they are addicts.

AG Sessions is focusing on catching and punishing the dealers, and drug gangs.

To a good extent, you are correct. In most cases the report of the commission is often ignored. One thing is certain, it is a crisis and is killing many and causing much of the increase in crime. I know personally too many people now deceased because of it, one a family member and many young friends my daughter knows. It is a tragic situation of which in my elder years I have not seen before.

I don't see Trump doing this for PR, I think he is sincerely trying to help.

Give me the credentials of the people on the commission, and I'll tell you whether it has a chance of making a difference. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Harvard Medical researcher Bertha Madras? There's a pretty good chance they'll do a bit more than pretend to care.

There is no treatment that works. Even heroin addicts who have been imprisoned and gotten clean while in the prison system will become addicted again just as soon as they can.

Sessions can try focusing on catching and punishing dealers all day long, but it won't change anything except create a lot of bloodshed as newer dealers move in to take advantage of the demand. What has to change is society and our acceptance of addicts. They have to be shunned from society, just as we did with crack addicts. Either that, or we accept heroin addicts as easily as we accept alcoholics or marijuana users.

These opioid addicts destroy their own lives, and eventually drive their friends and family away; they are the architects of society shunning them

Abolish the DEA, tell the feds to drop dead, and stopping forcing individuals to the streets of the black market. End of problem. Let's start being free souls and demand that we decide for ourselves what is good or bad, instead of living as slaves for the government trolls who feed their power lust by treating individuals as mice in a maze.
