It looks like the Donald is all in. If the democrats had a competent candidate in their stable in 2020, Trump would not have such easy pickins.
I cannot see how anyone can argue against his positions unless they are stone cold lefties. I wonder if the democrat party will move to the center or stay on its left wing iceberg as it drifts further out to sea…

You agree with "no free speech" and "no free press"? Isn't that Putin/Xi/Jong-un-ish?

    What Pres. Trump said was:
"We don't have a free press. We really don't have free speech anymore," he said. "It's very bad, very dangerous. These elections are going to be absolutely critical for this country."

He was criticizing the lack of free press and of free speech.

How is it that we lack a free press and free speech?

For the good of the nation it is time that he acknowledged he has become too toxic and another Trump administration would probably not end well.

I am all for seeing Governor DeSantis run.

Not interested in the job of House Speaker - Well, that's good. He'd be miserable in that job.

Fighting inflation starts with energy production - Pretty sure energy production has continued on the same upward trend regardless of inflation.

Withholding foreign aid until countries take back their illegal migrants - Probably the dumbest one. All countries are willing to "take back" illegal immigrants.

Election integrity modeled after Florida and Texas - Ah, more of his braindead conspiracy theories about the election.

Stabilizing the world, and a NATO for China - What the hell does that even mean?

No free press, no free speech - A rare instance of Trump telling the truth. He's always been against free press and free speech

Trump hates both free speech and the free press. What he wants is speech/press that favors him. He doesn't give two shits about actual freedom in those areas and has actively attacked the exercise thereof.

What Mr. Trump was saying was in favor of free speech and free press.

Reality seems to be that no politicians want the public to know what they are doing.

Just like everything else Trump you read the gd HEADLINE and not the substance. Outrage abounds!

Here, I'll help you out. And I'll even bold and underline the important parts.

"No free press, no free speech

Trump made clear he won't decide whether to run for president in 2024 until after he sees what happens in the midterm elections.

"I want to look at what's happening," he said of the midterms. "And then we're going to be doing something else."

But he made clear he views the next two elections as a litmus test for the sort of America we will live in for decades.

"We don't have a free press. We really don't have free speech anymore," he said. "It's very bad, very dangerous. These elections are going to be absolutely critical for this country."

Whomever wrote this article put this in the headline "No free press, no free speech" to get progressives to get hysterical thinking that's what he was saying. And it worked!

Well I think if we are referring to him personally, he would like a chance to talk without getting stupid questions like "do you reject white supremacy?" every time he was doing his daily pressers

That would be a nice start.

    Two questions:

    1) Would you like to see hateful stories about yourself? The media was largely resentful of and unfriendly to Trump ab initio. Why shouldn't he reciprocate the ill will?

    2) What did Trump ever do to actually restrict the freedom of the press?

Note: "Biden had done just 22 press interviews through December 31 of his first year in office, a total dwarfed by the 92 interviews Trump had done and the 156(!) Obama participated in during their first years as president."

I wouldn't like to see it, but I also wouldn't like to restrict it. Trump differs in that respect.

For example, I'm a project manager. I would never sue someone for calling my project plan ugly, but Trump did sue people for calling his building plan ugly.

I never said he was successful in his war on free speech, just that he waged it.

Which US President, come to that, Western (or Eastern) leader hasn't?

Julian Assange has been avoiding extradition to the US through most of the Presidency of Obama and Trump and now Biden. No difference.

    War? Not by my definition.

But okay, what serious proposals to even restrict speech did he ever make? He kicked out an annoying Jorge Ramos from a press conference when Ramos wouldn't wait his turn like everybody else (and then invited him back in). But what legislation did he actually sponsor? What reporter did he arrest? What radio station closed? He wanted to reduce restrictions on the rights to sue for defamation I was with him on that.

Why shouldn't one be subject to a lawsuit, that he may or may not win, for falsely and recklessly claiming that another person enjoys watching prostitutes urinate on each other?

    ???
If the speed limit is 25 and lots of people break it that doesn't mean the speed limit doesn't matter.

That I even bothered to correct the nonsense being said shows I do think it matters.

Trump has never liked a free press. He only likes the Press that agrees with his policies and calls all others "fake news." Trump has even done that with Fox from time to time. So, again, more like Putin, Xi, etc.

He's done more than that. He's gone to court saying that it should be illegal to call his building plans ugly. Do you think it should be illegal to call his building plans ugly?

Hold it; criticism and dislike of the press is legitimate. They can't scream " fascism!" every time Trump calls them out on Russiagate. . Ditto the whipping claims against the border patrol, Kyle Rittenhouse, and the Covington kids.

He is right to hate them.

I think you feel the press should be able to create lies out if whole cloth. Well, they can. The reason they can and get away with it is they are owned by large corporations that insulate them from the financial ramifications of losing market share. Furthermore, the Executive suite hires those who reflect their vision. They can afford to brush off accusations of corruption.
The congress and Justice department can remedy this by breaking up Big Media. Six media giants own 75% of the media: Who owns your news:
