I think it's within his purview to embargo a Country and stop business from being conducted with them.

But man oh man, the consequences within the market...I don't think he quite realizes what that will do to the US economy, and all the stuff it buys from China.

Yes, he could embargo, but that's not what he did.

In a later tweet, Trump attempted to flip the script by suggesting that the Dow's 573 point drop at the time was the result of news that Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), one of several Democrats running in the 2020 presidential race, was ending his candidacy.

I know. He tweeted. Which is about as meaningful as my 10 minutes on the can this morning.

    I was speaking hypothetically.

    For soybeans!?

Seem like if there is no market,
    time to change crops.
    How about peanuts?

BTW I learned about the plight of the farmer
by an excellent High School U.S. History teacher who divided
post War Between the States history in sections.
    Farmer. Industry. Labor. etc.
Farmers get stuck in years of plenty because everyone has plenty
    and that drives prices down.
And of course farmers are stuck with the tab in very bad years.

Gov't should "license" farmers to plant this or that crop
and in return for the license get a guarantee of a minimum price.
Of course farmers could grow what they want and rely on the open market.

    Moi :oldman:

    Beware, Gov't Subsidized
    :flagcanada: Soybeans
    driving the price lower!
Trump stopped such behaviors by :flagcanada: !
    Obama ignored them.

He tweeted something he is not empowered to do by just ordering it.

If he really wanted to do something, he could pressure the WTO to adopt international environmental and worker protection standards which these emerging economies would then have to adhere to. That would go a long way in leveling the playing field that has currently favored manufacturing to move to these countries.

    Forget Putin and Kim.

Trump is a walking corpse, an under-world entity disguised as a human that should have no place on this Earth, yet roams to wreak havoc, relaying orders from his schizophrenic mind while sucking up oxygen which other people, people infinitely more decent and law-abiding, need to contribute to the betterment of society and their existence.

The Trump entity couldn't care less about words as decent, law-abiding or betterment or any words that make up this piece for the Trump-entity doesn't understand human language, beginning with the word no. (No, you cannot buy our island!!)

    But as he is, apparently, the chosen one;

All hail to the zombie dictator!

Yeah, you would have thought that he would have learned his lesson after announcing the travel ban via twitter and sending the country into a weekend nightmare.

He could, but that would require half a brain.

He's not right because you can't turn back the clock. That train has left the station.

Trump views the world as a sign of weakness. From the mind of a dictator...

Perhaps he thinks we're far better of without it.

I mean, if we don't need China, why put up with the rest?

I'm a little down on Trump right now. I ordered my wife to stop having her brother visit and learned my sofa is too lumpy for sleeping.

I'm sure companies are lining up to obey trumps "orders" lol. This is the last refuge of a joke who is slowly realizing the country is done with him.

I should have been more specific. He is right when he said:
"They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP."

He is wrong to give orders to US companies. What train left the station?

Of course he can't order it, but I think that is the best way to make America great again. We need to start making our own stuff again.
If trump wanted to leave a real legacy, he should make this his over-riding theme of his presidency.

Americans want to be paid big bucks and buy stuff made by people making pennies

With the wealth gap ( helped by Trump ) the majority of Americans couldn't afford to " Buy American "
