WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday endorsed the U.S. government’s authority to detain immigrants awaiting deportation anytime - potentially even years - after they have completed prison terms for criminal convictions, handing President Donald Trump a victory as he pursues hardline immigration policies.

Another reversal of the left leaning 9th federal circus.

Now that this is settled, time to build a wall.

I hear trump has found billions more to fund it as well.

Interesting that it was a razor's edge 5-4 decision -- meaning that these devious, hypocritical slimebag Democrats will double-down on trying to "pack the court" so that they can stack on more über-liberal creatures like Sotomayor and Kagan (as Obama did during his eight years).

    Link: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/so...t-dramatic-increase-of-supreme-court-justices

Packing the court has been a major goal since the Supreme Court became re-balanced with the additions of Gorsuch and Kavanaugh by President Trump.

And who was the last president who attempted to pack the Supreme Court? You guessed it! The great hyperliberal demi-god, Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt! Link: https://www.history.com/news/franklin-roosevelt-tried-packing-supreme-court

I ought to start a thread on this NOW, because the Democrats are at it again!

The left values the Supreme Court as a way to implement their agenda without having to appeal to voters.

I wonder how this ruling would have gone with RBG's replacement.

If you remember though, FDR got crucified for that, even his VP called him an idiot for trying it.

Some say that was the turning point of the New Deal because after this the Supreme Court went blatantly against every case they heard dealing with FDR's policies.

Two conservative Justices didn't even need to hear the case, it was an automatic no from them.

And it wasn't that he just wanted to increase the membership to 11 but he wanted to force retirement which would have kicked some off the bench giving him a total of 5 picks if I remember correctly.

As bad as Trump is it was nothing like this power grab.

Not since Jefferson had something this bold been tried.

Of course Truman followed in his footsteps with trying to grab the entire steel industry which shows you just how evil liberals can be if they attain too great of power.

Tells you a lot when leftists have to be taken all the way to SCOTUS to keep violent illegal aliens off the streets.

Leftists are a full-blown Jim Jones cult.

We agree with a lot, and yet the one thing that's always there, is my view of the Nation-State. I believe Manifest Destiny was an important part of American History, and if that contemporary view had prevailed a lot of the ills we complain about today wouldn't exist. I admired Polk's professionalism and yes, the outreach to Texas and California were right moves to make(at the time, we can't say Polk or Manifest Destiny supporters could foresee what California would become. Imagine if a rivaling power such as England or France took hold of California's gold.)

Today, Manifest Destiny doesn't need to take the form of territorial acquisition, we already have 50 States as it is. But rather, I think that what's proven to be true is that the bigger and bigger the country, the more of a need for a centralized force to bind it(and by force, it must not be assumed that I mean authoritarian violence but rather that it means a recognized body of approval by the vast majority of its citizens.)

The Republic was only capable of governing over a small territory. The Continental Dollar crisis was because of the independence of numerous States financial systems. Because of our current decentralized mess, and our chaotic history in decentralization, I want to create the central state like the Vatican(and in previous times, Rome/Greek, etc.)

If there's to be a new Roman/English Empire, it should be the USA.

Manifest Destiny ended when we hit the Pacific.

It then turned inwards for a time and died out.

But yes, that was one of the biggest things that made an American an American and you can see the left chipping away at that.

Whether it is right or wrong is up for debate but it undoubtable made us who we are and able to accomplish what we accomplished.

There is no immigration clause in our federal Constitution. And, there is no express wall building clause.

Actually, it was President Obama who argued that Congress empowered the executive branch to deal with the border. So, if that's the position of the prior administration there's no reason for the current administration not to hold that view.

There has Never been an immigration clause nor a wall building clause. Why does the right wing believe there is a Cold War clause?

Of course, this will likely be followed by the Supreme Court likely approving Trump’s wall. If Congress doesn't like this they could stop ceding so much authority to the president.

There's not an abortion clause, a DACA clause, or a sanctuary cities clause either.
