and become just another vulnerable fish in the violent Greed polluted, Corporate owned

Maybe they wouldn't mind being Americans if they were offered $1 million per person.

    Septic tank...?

They would get their million bucks, and they would be able to stay in Greenland, or move to US, or Denmark. 90% of the population are local Inuit people, who would probably stay put, and no, they are not as crazy about 'free healthcare' as you think. Mostly they mind their own business.

Not really unreasonable. You could offer twice, or thrice that amount and still be talking about a pittance.

Greenlanders, understandably, are loathe to submit themselves to American domination, but for three million dollars a person? It's hard to see them turning that offer down.

    $1M * 56 000 = $56 Billion.

It is up to the Greenlanders to decide, but I think it could be had for a reasonable price. Not many would turn down $1 million.

Average income in Greenland is $30K, with 50% tax rate, so its more than just peanuts.

Right. Plus I don't think the Induit people care whose "dominion" they fall under when they'll just mind their own business either way.

I doubt it. Got a feeling they see Danish domination as negatively as they might American domination. Just an intuition I have.

    Ah, so it is.

It's also up to Denmark to decide.

Not also up to Denmark to decide but solely up to Denmark to decide.
Greenland is like Peurto RICO their are owned by the master country and cannot sell themselves to let's say Liechstestein.

If Trump had not crapped on all of our European Allies and not crapped on NATO countries and not lost his credibility with our European allies maybe he could have convinced Denmark to sell us Greenland using the Russian threat. But he has poo pooed the Russian threat, knelt down and genuflected at the feet of his master Putin so how can he convince Denmark that selling Greenland to US is best for not just us but for the security of Europe. The reason to buy Greenland is to Block Russian expansion in the Arctic region and to block Russia from easy access to Arctic resources and easy movement of Russian vessels through a once frozen passage that global warming is opening up.

Of course we would still have to figure out how to raise the money and obtain the credit necessary to meet the price that Denmark would ask.

The other minor link teeny weeny little minute small hurdle for Trump to get over is , is Greenland for sale. The Great Danes say no, the Greenies say that the idea of Trump's offer to buy Greenland is a sick joke and that he ( Melania's current husband ) according to the PM or Premiere of Greenland in a "fool". The foreign minister of Denmark I understand called the Trumpian offer to buy Greenland an April Fools joke in the wrong season.

So Trump with no credibility , no respect , no money in trying to buy something that is not for sale.

Oh I forgot Netanyahu of Israel and Kim Dum Wump,of North Korea sort of like and respect Trump but does anyone think that Israel a country that is the number one recipient of US aid and North Korea a country that cannot feed it 's own population will have enough combined financial power to offer a mortgage loan to Trump even if Denmark would sell Greenland?

I don't think you have much of a grasp of the relationship between Danes and Greenlanders. If the Greenlanders tell the Danes they want out, the Danes aren't going to fight it.

No, it is not up to Denmark. They wrote a law in 2009 giving residents of Greenland the authority to decide such things.

I know more than you think. Greenland is an autonomously run "country" within the Kingdom of Denmark. Still it is a part of Denmark though a bit looser than Wales is a country within Great Britain.

I will give you one point and that is the Greenies would not want to be a Peurto RICO.

Edit PS I just looked it up you are correct that Greenland can decide to leave the Kngdom of Denmark.

I'm not saying you don't understand the legal reality, I'm talking about the emotional link between the two peoples.

The PM of Denmark did say that Greenland can decide. But she or he did say that Greenland is not up for sale.

This is not originally Trump's idea, but one that is more than a century ago. Furthermore, buying land is exactly how United States of America came into being in the first place.

I am a fan of the idea of buying and selling nations.

Buying and selling is better than war, especially if locals opinion is taken into account.

My understanding is that in Denmark’s law, Greenland can chose to become independent at any moment and once they do their wish will Ben granted right away.
That means that technically, the US can run a campaign offering a $1,000,000 to each Greenlander who votes to leave Denmark and join the US and can prove that vote. With their GDP per capita being at $37k, widespread unemployment and substance abuse, I have a strong feeling very few would reject the offer.
You could even butter up the deal by offering to invest the funds in investment instruments of their choosing, restrict annual withdrawals to a specific percentage and that $1M will last them several generations without the need to work at all.

No, because Denmark gave the authority to decide to Greenlanders.

Yes. Trump just needs to say things like "imagine how much Whiskey you can buy with million bucks".

The US needs to intervene into a race over Arctic region. China and Russia are already there. Greenland would provide the US a formidable build up in the strategic region... So Trump is not at all insane. But...

Greenland is somewhat a colony of Denmark, which is sort of in between the meat mincer. It did oppose China's initiatives to invest into Greenland's infrastructure. But sources of Denmark are very limited and it cannot participate in a race of big boys. At the same time the people of Greenland will find themselves in a wave a separatistic hysteria. The one side will tell that Denmark is EU and Greenland needs to stick with EU. (The status quo however has the smallest backup, because the EU sort of misses its turns in geostrategical game of big boys) The other side will tell that Greenland needs to proclaim its independence and accept China's help to establish as an important small state. The third side will tell that Greenland needs to become another state of the US...

I wouldn't be surprised if the island turns into civil war in a year or two. The most interesting point from the viewpoint of the americans is that Greenland has about zero historical and cultural ties with the US comparing to history of Russia and Crimea, but 'free media' will certainly find decisive arguments to prove that Greenland is 'land for you and me' and Crimea is annexed just the same way as Hong Kong... :) Just because there are good guys and bad guys and the US is always on the side of all the good. No matter what. :)
