In every day life, extortion such as this would fall under the federal definition of RICO crimes. The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) act which was originally used in the 1970s to prosecute the Mafia as well as others who were actively engaged in organized crime. Crimes such as bribery, fraud, obstruction of justice, racketeering, money laundering and many other offenses are covered under this Federal criminal code.

Donald Trump sees the world as his personal piggy bank, and if his supporters still believe this is the way a president should run our country, like a business, they are dead wrong. Our global allies aren't commodities to be held hostage for more money or threatened with loss of U.S. support if they don't 'cough up more dough.' That's exactly how a racketeer operates, that's how a mobster does business, not the president of the United States.

It's incredible how easily people in this country can forget what the United States represents, or used to represent, around the world. As Ronald Reagan emphasized, "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere." People in this country should be able to think beyond 'flags and the Fourth of July' and understand what it should mean to be an American.

    John McCain possibly said it best;
“In the real world, as lived and experienced by real people, the demand for human rights and dignity, the longing for liberty and justice and opportunity, the hatred of oppression and corruption and cruelty is reality. By denying this experience, we deny the aspirations of billions of people, and invite their enduring resentment,”

Our role in the world was always about more than money and guns, it was also about ideals. America stood for something larger than itself. America cannot be “first,” as Trump says, It can be a thug and a bully only in the betrayal of itself. The United States must be itself, it must be what it's always been -- a certain idea of liberty and democracy and openness, or it is nothing, just a squalid, oversized, greedy place past the height of its greatness.

And for the South Koreans too. They work hard, go to college...they are prosperous and some 80% of them are Presbyterian.

And many of them seem to be very fond of Kim Jong-un, and very unhappy with the presence of our troops. We should have been out of SK decades ago.

There are probably 45 South Koreans in my neighborhood and they don't like KJU. In fact, they are very proud of SK and how it has changed and progressed in the past 60 years.

Who told you they liked KiMJU and wanted our troops gone?

The hostility of many South Koreans toward the USA and its military is not subtle.
You do not have to look very hard to see it.

Is any opinion that is critical of the President's request for more financial support from SK disputing these numbers or where the monies that SK is supposedly paying the US are going too? SK is just another leeching country that is being asked too not profit quite as much from my taxpayer dollars. Key words not quite as much. Its scandalous. The entire world is Oliver Twist running up and asking for more soup.

I have never been to South Korea so all I know is the people that I meet and the prosperity I see and read about.

There are many pro-American South Koreans. I know a few. Nevertheless ...

28,000 Americans in SK sounds like 10,000 too many.

If the idea is to place Americans in the path of an NK invasion to trigger a war a few WAC volunteers in a border first aid/DMZ observatory station should be enough.

Zero would be better at this point.

SK is modern and prosperous. NK is a black hole.

Does SK even need the US?

They have the resources to defend themselves so long as they have the will.

Serious talks with NK should address the survival of the Kim family and regime, and the democratic republic in SK after unification/integration.

The best creative minds on all sides should be struggling with that problem instead of ignoring it.

Otherwise - No Deal and an eventual war is likely.

LOL! Kim cares. You know the guy we are supposed to be negotiating with.

Unless the negotiations are a sham and our foreign policy geniuses are determined to go to war with NK.

Dynastic tyrants tend to kill siblings who challenge them. How many of Kim's siblings has he killed?

The USG is apparently trying to convince Kim to give up his nuclear weapons.
How would you negotiate with him to achieve that result?

    You know nothing about Ukraine.

First of all Ukraine never existed, they're all Russians. The area called Ukraine, (which means outskirts), was taken over by Poland and Lithuania when the Mongol's invaded Russia. When the Pope tried to put them under Rome, the Eastern half rejoined Russia again.

To make matters worse, when the Western Polish part joined the Austrian/Hungarian Empire, they indoctrinated them against Russia for their own political reasons, so what you have are two distinctly different cultures - with the Western half under the Pope having an obsessive hatred towards the Russian Eastern Orthodox half.

As for Crimea, when the USSR broke up, Russia gave the Ukrainian administration the right to vote who they wanted to be with. Unlike Russia, Kiev refused to give the other areas the same respect of a vote. Crimea though remained a separate entity until the Ukrainian army invaded them and took them over by force.

Russia unlike Ukraine, never invaded Crimea. According to the treaty, Russia was allowed to have a 25 thousand man army in Sevastopol. When the fascist junta in Kiev had the coup, the people of Crimea refused to accept a government that didn't represent them, so the Kiev Nazis had a pogrom and killed 30 Crimean protesters.

Fearing another invasion by Ukraine, the Crimean people and government asked the Russian army stationed there to protect them until they could hold a referendum to join Russia..

    No!

No, but I do like honesty - and humanity. Sanctioning and starving people for not bowing to us is criminal. You do realize that those so called dead people in N. Korea appeared at the games in the South?

Haiti has about the same size population as Israel … yet Haiti is actually poor and Israel has been getting US AID since 1948.
