I understand it, but I don't sympathize with it. I grew up in a rural farm state, and I sympathize with those who can understand that the interests of Wyoming, North Dakota, and other small population states are as important to those residents as the interests of NY and CA are to their residents.

So on a presidential level, it's important to me that a presidential candidate values the interests of a small farm state as much as they do the interests of NY and CA. I think it's why Trump won in 2016, and Hillary didn't. Hillary didn't care about rural (fly-over) states, or poor states, or middle class states; and hence, she didn't win the electoral college. She was her own worst enemy.

You have to win by the rules in place, not by the rules you want to be in place. Hillary lost because she played a direct vote game on an indirect vote field.

    No one is disputing this...
Why don’t you go tell that to the poster that erroneously stated that he was elected by the American people how wrong and stupid he is instead of trying to act like I am saying something I am not.

In the spirit of fairness, I'll admit that had Clinton won in the EC, but lost the popular vote, Democrats would be defending the EC. Both sides really aren't all that different from each other.

The track record of the intellgencia isn't all that good either. Nobody trusts the critical government institutions we have, except perhaps the military. Everything seems like it's rotten to the core. The rich and powerful get away with literal murder. They cheat and get their kids into fancy colleges. They game the system and pay no taxes. They live a life of privilege and luxury that would make a Medici Prince blush. I was going to say the pitchforks are coming out, but it seems that people are meekly taking it, and checking out through drinking and drugs and social media.

It will always mystify me how anyone could think a rich entitled snob like Trump was the solution to all this. I guess he talked a good game. And, in his incompetent hamfisted way, he did try and take on China. He's since discovered that trade wars are not easy, and Americans are spoiled brats.

OK, if you want to get pedantic, actually the States chose Trump to be the president of their union. They did so by seating Electors, as has been the practice since the founding of our country.

I think it’s pretty obvious that trump was trolling the journalists. He knows they hate him and will look for any opportunity to twist his words.

But he was the chosen one. He received 304 votes compared to Hillary's 227.

    Well of course.

He has made a mockery of everything from day one.

No one has to twist his words

    A troll for president?

That seems incredibly sad, ridiculous, and embarrassing.

Trump is either trolling everyone or thinks he's like a god

He was chosen by the EC to be president. More Americans chose Hillary to be their president. But you know that.

The EC is how America chooses its president, and it always has been. But you knew that. And so did Hillary.

Its refreshing for a president to remember what he was elected, or some might say chosen, to do. Like stand up to China.

He is the one. The only one in decades.

    Absolutely. Everyone knows that.

That is why it is false to maintain the narrative that Americans chose Trump. Most Americans didn't choose him. More Americans chose Hillary. Despite that, he still won the election by quite a margin.

Americans choose the president through the EC which itself operates under the rules that the states set (so it's not like they are indepedently choosing anything in most cases, unless the state they came from decides to let them). And they choose their representation in the EC partly by deciding where to cast their votes. The EC elects the president so that California and New York don't. But yes, technically he is the president of the States themselves, who choose. So if you want to be pedantic, he was the "one" chosen by the States. Happy now?

    I'm always happy.

I just don't like false narratives, like the one that "Americans chose Trump". The implication of that narrative is that most Americans support Trump when in fact the opposite is true.

He won the election, but more Americans preferred Hillary. That's a fact.

The narrative that the EC chose Trump is misleading bordering on false. The electors don't independently decide who to elect unless the state they came from allows them to. And they usually don't. So it is the voters from the individual states who ultimately decide. It's that whole "representative democracy" thing. But you know who was trying to make the EC actually decide for themselves? The democrats who were trying to pressure the electors into being "faithless electors" and vote for someone they weren't sent there to vote for.
