I have been following Presidents for over a half of a century. I have always had a keen interest in both history and politics, and the two areas of interest often complement each other.

Today, President Trump made the worst decision of any President in modern history, possibly, the worst ever in our 240-year history. He pronounced a death sentence for a certain class of Americans. Ironically, many of those Americans voted for him, the uneducated working class.

Many Presidents have made poor policy decisions that have resulted in American deaths. Trump is the first President to make a policy decision that will result in American deaths for a political purpose. He wants the Republican Congress to pass a healthcare bill. For the moment, that appears unlikely. Consequently, Trump wants to force the issue by denying health care to a certain group of Americans. Those Americans total in the millions.

Today Trump declared, “Let Obamacare fail. It’ll be a lot easier, and I think we’re probably in that position where we’ll just let Obamacare fail. We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it.”

Let's examine that statement. "Let Obamacare fail." Trump wants his administration to withdraw all federal support for the nation's healthcare law. This will cause millions to lose their healthcare. This, in turn, will cause people to die for lack of care. The lack of federal government support likely impact Medicaid, which is a joint federal and state program that, together with the Children’s Health Insurance Program, provides health coverage to over 72.5 million Americans.

"I think we’re probably in that position where we’ll just let Obamacare fail." Is this conceited President bragging about this development? That is just plain sick.

"We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it." Because he has a problem with English, Trump misuses pronouns. What is "it?" Is it Obamacare? Or is it healthcare? The latter seems more appropriate. In which case, Trump is wrong. Trump and the Republican Party have owned healthcare in the U.S. since January, and together they have offered many promises. Today, that is exactly what we have -- promises.

Back to my original point, how many Americans will die because of the President's decision? How many Americans who voted for him will die because of his decision?

The blame lies not on Donald Trump. The blame lies collectively on the following. A: The 2009 Congress for passing it. B: President Barack Obama for passing it. And then C: Those cowardly Republicans incapable of thinking of a solid fix to the system, after having made several proposals that could fix it.

Donald Trump theoretically could, yes continue to interject Federal Dollars into a clearly dying system. He could even publicly state that it'll be the law of the land, restoring some temporary 'confidence' and all is well, for maybe about a year lol.

The financial losses in the insurance market are way too big, the prices of the actual insurance for consumers are way too high to maintain. And the inadvertent punishment for lower class citizens should they dare rise their income(they'll lose subsidies), means this whole thing is destined to fail.

We need to fix Health Care for ALL Americans, and for that we need the Democratic/Republican parties to work together. #MakeCongressCompetentAgain.

Because they would not fund it. It was already sabotaged when Marco Rubio eliminated the risk corridors that were guaranteed to the insurance companies when the program first went into effect. Trump has no care or interest in providing affordable healthcare insurance. His campaign promises were all bull-****, but savvy people already knew that.

Donald Trump hates poor people, but he hates small business owners even more.

Was Marco Rubio President? HHS Secretary? How many Republican votes did Obama seek to shove the pack of lies he and Gruber shoved through and made law because the end justified the means? You have some nerve blaming Republicans for an ill-advised disaster of for and by the Democratic Party. It's falling on its face because of Democrats, not Republicans.

Do you have a reliable source for your assertion? That would, btw, exclude NYT, WaPo, Soros puppets, and other members of the Liberal echo chamber.

Obama had been illegally siphoning billions to prop up ACA. Congress, to include Rubio, controlls spending. Congress, allocates funds, not the administration. Trumps wall would be under construction if he was allowed to repurpose agency funds.

Give me a break! Facts obviously scare you so stop wasting the time of people who are clearly way more in the know than you by responding to their posts. Stay ignorant if that floats your boat.

Salon isn't a place to go for facts. Try original source material. Obama and Gruber told us they had you brainwashed and were proud of it. Wake up, young lady and think for yourself.

I agree, but you misunderstood me. I didn't blame Trump for the ACA. That's absurd. I said that he and the Republicans have owned healthcare since January. I drew a distinction between the ACA and healthcare because the GOP promised to repeal and replace Obamacare.

They have not done that. As a consequence, Trump wants to punish a certain group of Americans that includes children.

Trump, as usual, makes no sense. Republicans control the White House, the Senate, and the House. Who does he blame when the Senate couldn't even repeal the ACA, let alone replace it? The Democrats. That's stupid. Neither Trump nor Republican leadership has reached out to the Democrats to solve the problems of healthcare. But Trump blames the Democrat, anyway. Brilliant.

You have a point, but it goes a lot farther than that.

The Trump administration is not waiting around for Republicans in Congress, who continue to battle internally over legislation to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. The president and his officials have taken several steps that undermine the law.

The mixed messages have left insurers, providers and advocates increasingly jittery over Obamacare's future. The uncertainty prompted many insurers to consider withdrawing from the exchanges next year. Several have already pulled out, including Humana (HUM), whose exit is leaving roughly 40,000 people in Tennessee without any coverage option for next year, unless another carrier steps in.

Here's what Trump has done to Obamacare:

Issued an executive order to roll back Obamacare: Hours after he was sworn in as president, Trump signed an executive order aimed at weakening Obamacare as much as possible under the law. The order directed agencies to minimize the financial burden of the health law on individuals, insurers, states and others.

Stressed Obamacare was on the verge of collapse: Trump has repeatedly said -- and tweeted -- that Obamacare was about to explode, implode, fail or otherwise collapse. This runs counter to multiple analyses, including one by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, that says the individual market is largely stable. But his pronouncements have undermined the ACA.

Canceled ads for Obamacare open enrollment.

Weakened enforcement of the individual mandate.

Encouraged states to change Obamacare's rules:
Health Secretary Tom Price has informed the nation's governors that they can apply for waivers to modify the regulations governing Obamacare and Medicaid.

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/28/news/economy/obamacare-trump-100-days/index.html

That was just in the first 100 days of his administration. Now that he is determined to kill healthcare for millions of Americans, there is little doubt that his administration will now take additional steps.

It is not wonderful thus Trump's campaign promise to fix it and provide all Americans with cheaper and better insurance. Trump has failed to deliver this and now blames the democrats which is laughable from a man who said we are going to get tired of winning and that leaders are responsible for failure.

"Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible." - Trump

He can't repeal it, but the guys who repealed it a couple dozen times over 8 years can, but they're just big government, corporatist whores too, just like the bunch that passed it
