Would you not need legislation to require that, since releasing tax returns is not the law, and is a relatively new thing? And his election is a federal election, not a state election. I doubt states have the right to dictate requirements for federal elections, as they do not legislate federal law.

Isn't it the democratic voters expecting this from the opposition party's candidates? ha ha Driven by partisan politics. Should we allow partisan politics to dictate what the rules and law are? Boy, what a can of worms would that open, yielding more absurdity.

I have come to think that partisans all carry these big flat sticks, used to stir sh*t at every available opportunity. Now, generally, if not in the political realm, no reasonable human being would want this, because it would be stinky idiocy.

They should also be required to cite the Pledge of Allegiance, with feeling, and eat a pork sandwich. Where does it end? Has one no constitutional right to privacy?

it'll never materialize, the constitution only gives them the power to decide how to hold their elections ( dates/times, locations, gerrymandering) & nada on the qualifications of the candidates (that's set by the feds)...that said, i'd love to see them hand cross out a candidate & tell all their residents that they can't vote for 'x', that'd be priceless to watch all those local pols get impeached and or voted out...

anywho, this, and all the fuss the last 10 years, has been designed to end the 'union' and revert to separate states without a centralized government... much like the fall of the 'iron curtain'...

the funny thing here is... for the 2020 elections, candidates are only 'asked' to provide the last year's return, so 2017 through 2019 trumps are nada, as he gave up control of all his companies before being sworn in jan 2017... i'm sure he'll be smirkin big time when he hands 'em over...

Article 1, Section 4, Clause 2 doesn't mention the candidates, but the election process which I think is different from what you are contending.

Chester send your understanding to federal court, though the reply will be something like, "Thank you . . . uh . . . no."

The right posts The Independence all the time. And (listen carefully), they did not create the legislation only reported it.

Section 1 of Article Two of the United States Constitution sets forth the eligibility requirements for serving as president of the United States:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

Nothing about taxes. States can't override the Constitution, or at least of two thirds of the states are needed to do so.

What many people are not aware of is that Trump's position has been consistent from the beginning and to date. He will show his Tax returns when the IRS completes their audit.

Proof of this begins at the 1:45 mark

For people still able to think logically, the question should be why is the IRS still not done with Trump's audit? Why isn't anyone putting pressure on the IRS?

Then we have those anti-Trumpers severely infected with TDS who find fault with anything, good or bad that Trump does. These are very sick people for which there is no known cure and should be prayed for or simply ignored.

pete, we are talking about the legislature of Illinois, not Trump's ever vacillating positions.

"If I decide to run for office, I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely!
And I would love to do that!"

    2014

Trump not only repeatedly promised the American people that, as a presidential candidate and nominee, he would comply with the customary practice of releasing his tax returns, Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code requires it: “Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives…the [Treasury] Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.”

If he deems it vital that he persist in hiding his returns despite the law, his refusal to keep his promise and come clean will further alienate a "Fool me once..." electorate in 2020:

Even if he succeeds in breaking his promise and keeping them hidden, he will pay a political penalty.

Americans are not going to stop asking.
