Based on the court cases that have already been cited.

"Even if a congressional committee requests President Trump’s tax returns from the IRS, President Trump may have a constitutional defense to disclosure. That is, although Section 6103(f) is phrased in absolute terms — it allows tax committees and the JCT Chief of Staff to obtain tax return information, without qualification — any congressional action, including requests for information, must come within the scope of legislative powers granted by Article I of the Constitution. And a request for President Trump’s tax returns, if made for purely political purposes, may exceed legislative powers.

As the Supreme Court explained in Watkins v. United States, “there is no congressional power to expose for the sake of exposure.” Rather, if Congress wants to collect information from the executive branch or other outsiders, it must do so in connection with its legislative power. That is, a Congressional attempt to investigate an official or request information from him is valid only to the extent it serves proper legislative purposes.*** Congress cannot simply engage in “a fruitless investigation into the personal affairs of individuals.” Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 195 (1880). Thus, for example, it seems unlikely that Congress could properly request the tax returns of all civil rights leaders solely for the purpose of harassing them, even if there were potential non-discriminatory reasons for making those requests. "

If the Democrats want to try and engage in an abuse of power, let's go to court.

LIKE WHAT??? You have his financial disclosure forms what else do you need? That LEGALLY he paid a small tax one year or two years or whatever several years ago? So what? What legislative purpose does Congress have in finding out?

How about this, instead of wasting our time on this hyped up WE NEED TRUMPS TAX RETURNS and the Democrats in Congress wasting their valuable time on it how about they write legislation improving and enhancing the financial disclosure forms all candidates, the President and the Vice President and cabinet members and make sure we include members of Congress have to supply every year?

The right wingers are arguing a losing case.

The courts will not intrude on or deny the Congress its prerogatives per the Constitution.

None of the cases they’re breathlessly relying upon have any applicability to 26 USC sect 6103. None.

How do I know what's in his tax returns? Maybe nothing, but we're talking about a guy with a history of committing fraud and employing eventual felons. All I'm saying is that when a guy THAT shady is running your country, the idea defending his choice to be less transparent strikes me as a little off. Actually, defending a guy that shady at all seems strange.

so it's another witch hunt. Pardon me but before you start demanding someone's tax returns which are federally protected documents you better have cause to do so, you don't.

They don't care if he's a crook, or apparently even a cold-blooded killer. Trump himself said it: He could shoot someone on 5th Ave and his supporters wouldn't care. They cheered when he called for extreme torture. They cheered when he called for the mass murder of tens of thousands of innocent people. They cheer every time he makes an adolescent level joke about anyone he doesn't like. They cheered when he called for violence against protesters, And they don't care that he praises cold-blooded killers like Duterte, and obvious charlatans and insanity peddlers, like Alex Jones.

It isn't strange. It makes perfect sense once you see it for what it is. We have seen this sickness many times before in the history of the world.

The day I sat and watched so-called Americans cheering for extreme torture and mass murder, I knew that the beast is raising its ugly head again, but this time HERE. I never thought I would see it here.

I just said I wasn't personally demanding them. My point in this is to wonder how the hell you support a guy THAT shady and who refuses to show the same documents as every other candidate has for the past how many decades?

Even the dude's stated reason for not showing the documents is an obvious lie... why are you defending him?

Then you better figure out how to get them.
Trump won't file to protect them. You will have to file with the courts to get them, and you won't be heard

I just said his financial disclosure list his debts and assets and income, you nor anyone else can seem to come up with anything that will be in a tax return that requires a Congressional inquiry. I defend and support the Presidency and the Constitution. Don't like he has not done something for which there is no legal or constitutional requirement, VOTE him out. I can't stand the guy, didn't vote for him but he won and we don't have political coups here at least I hope we don't start now.

Based upon the clear and unambiguous language of 26 USC sect. 6103. In sharp contrast, you’re trying to rely upon ancient and wholly inapplicable caselaw.

    You lose, my uninformed chum.

The precedent of separation of powers and that the Constitution gives the power to the states to conduct elections and #342 above.

What's it to you. It's not like he promised you cotton candy. So he changed his mind. That's not a crime. Besides, they're his returns, not yours.

But the Constitution forbids States from usurping powers reserved for the Federal Government.

There is no Constitutional requirement a Presidential candidate release forms that show how much income tax they pay on earned income.

I'm curious why the Socialist Progressives running Illinois care so little about the Constitution.

Of course the courts will intrude. The law is unconstitutional.

Sad the Socialist Progressives running Illinois now are wasting taxpayers time on this nonsense.
