The burden will be on the prosecution to prove that the documents were classified and that their markings had not changed when they were seized.
If trump wanted to raise a positive defense that the documents had been declassified, he would have to lead evidence to that effect. That burden would be on him.

To say that the defense never has the burden of proof in a criminal case demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of the rules of evidence and procedure.
