    In 1961 FDR made a similar decree and challenge to reach the moon and safely return by the end of the decade and what that did was foster so much technological and engineering innovations it catapulted the US to be a world leader in those fields and it also helped to make America the great economic power house its been

    With Trumps decree and challenge he wants to once again enforce Americas position in technology and engineering

    Its a great decision a proven successful decision

    Apparently either Trump or his advisors (or both) have no idea that branches of the DoD are established by Congress.

    When space becomes militarized, no one will ever be safe again. Chances are China and Russia have already done it though so we might as well....it is now a matter of time before really bad stuff happens.

    Officers would certainly love it. The redundant bureaucracy would provide more spaces for Colonels and Generals.

    Fun fact, we have almost as many flag officers in the modern US military of ~3 million personnel as we did when the US military was closer to 12 million personnel.

    Perhaps my point is unclear. Russia and China have advanced space programs and very little transparency into what they launch. Just as you and I have no idea what SDI morphed into (guaranteed it did not die) our country has little idea what they are doing.

    It doesn’t matter if they have transparency on what they launch. Once it’s in space, it’s visible to anyone who wants to look at it.

    If Russia and China had weapons in space, they would be pretty obvious, and not just to governments. Plenty of NGO’s have telescopes and other space viewing sensors that would identify a weapon satellite or a satellite large enough to hold a hidden weapon pretty quickly.

    Short of purposefully causing Kessler Syndrome, there is no way to control space using modern or any near future (within 30-40 years) technology.

    I just hope Dumbo isn't talking about militarizing space. We have agreements against that sort of thing, but then maybe the Führer feels that that, too, is a "bad deal" for Amerika?

    It would seem the misunderstanding is deeper than I thought. Seeing a box does not tell you what is in it. There is no way right now to know what a satellite does.
